Next Years Salary Cap
A look at the team's salary commitment for next season.
Calderon - $9.7 mil (2 years left)
Bargnani - $9.0
Barbosa - $7.6 mil (player option)
Amir Johnson - $5.5
Ed Davis - $ 2 mil
Keliza - $4.65 mil (3 years left)
Julian Wright - 3.95 mil (qualifying offer)
Demar Derozan - $2.625 mil
Jerryd Bayless - $3 mil
James Johnson - $1.8 mil (under control for 3 years)
Joey Dorsey - $1 mil (qualifying offer)
Solomon Alabi - $830k
Assuming that Barbosa will pick up his player option, and assuming that the Raps decline the qualifying offer on Wright, it would put them at about $41 million going into next year. With the raps likely picking anywhere from 1 - 5, they will be adding 3 to 4.5 mil in salary based on the rookie pay scale bringing the raps back upto about $45mil.
Next years salary cap is being set at $58 mil with the raps having approximately $45 mil committed to 12 players after the draft (assuming that Barbosa picks up his option and Wright is declined qualifying.) So this would leave the GM (who ever it is) about $13 million to try and make this roster better. Sonny Weems is a restricted free agent and made just over $800k this year, so he should be able to be retained for 1-2 mil next year.
I found myself browsing through the list of Free Agents this summer and no one jumped out at me as a player that could come in and make this a playoff team. If I were GM, I would like to see the team save the cap room for 2012 and continue to develop their young talent. I would also look at bringing back Weems for another year with a team option for a second year.
What would you do?

Aaron Brooks and Marc Gasol
are the best available free agents for next year.
Agreed, but they are both restricted. I think Memphis would match for Gasol, Brooks on the other hand might be available but wouldn’t come cheap.

I am not sure that Brooks is really enough of an upgrade over JC to warrant anything but a low ball offer. If you can swing a deal where you can ship out JC’s contract and bring in a player who can at least spot start in the NBA (Luke Ridnour for example) to back up Brooks, then you do it othewise its just a wasted contract and you would be better off paying someone enough money to ensure we are over the minimum cap level (what ever that is). Of course that is the projected salary cap next year, as if some owners get their way it will probably drop to under 50 mil and the Raps will bumping right up against it.
You missed Reggie Evans in your list and totals...
I like Aaron Brooks, if we don’t draft Kyrie Irving.
If we get Kyrie then we just ride out Jose’s contract as a mentor and look at how Bayless develops as a permanent backup or not.
If we don’t draft Irving, I would bring in Brooks for as cheap as possible, shop Jose after next year and have another full season of evaluation on Jerryd Bayless.
If Bayless becomes the backup of the future, a back court of Brooks and Bayless is fine by me, especially if the Raptors stay a run and gun team.
What happens with the draft is going to predicate all other roster moves in my opinion.
(except a few obvious drops from the roster, traded or cut ie. Wright, Alabi and Dorsey)
KDFREATPED
I didn’t mention Evans because he is an unrestricted free agent and therefore we don’t have any salary committment to him next year.
As for Aaron Brooks, he won’t be cheap. The Rockets can match any contract offer that he recieves.
