Amir Johnson Comparing Simple Stats
Amir Johnson has started 42 games this season. He has started 41 games at the PF position.
In those 41 starts at the PF position he is averaging
PPG 11.1
RPG 7.2
BPG 1.3
If you go to Basketball-Reference.com and "Player Season Finder" and do a search for all players in the NBA who are averaging at least those numbers you come up with a total of only 10 players in the league *** who are averaging as much or more than Amir is in all of those three categories as a starter.
*** I am looking at Amir's numbers as a starter only as that is what he is now and 41 games starting at PF are enough games to give some meaningful numbers.
They are
Ct. Player 2010-11 Salary in Millions
-----------------------------------------------------------
1 Pau Gasol $17.8
2 Dwight Howard $15.8
3 Amare Stoudemire $16.5
4 Tim Duncan $18.8
5 Al Jefferson $13.0
6 Josh Smith $11.6
7 Andrew Bogut $11.0
8 Joakim Noah $3.1 but $12.0 in 2011-12
9 Andrew Bynum $13.7
10 Roy Hibbert $1.7 (On rookie contract)
If you add a fourth criteria of True Shooting Percentage of 60% or more you get one player Dwight Howard
other than Amir who meet these four criteria
These four criteria are what Big men in the NBA are measured on using simple stats
PPG
RPG
BPG
Shooting percentage
Is Amir overpaid?
Even using simple stats the answer appears to be a resounding no.
In fact using simple stats one could say that Amir is vastly underpaid.
