2:30pm Temple @ Texas
After a pretty good stretch of games in the last two weeks, Texas’ Myck Kabongo played a game that would have people thinking he had fallen off some against Nicholls State this past Tuesday. In that game he had 4 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals in 28 minutes but keep in mind that the Longhorns had a blow out going. Today, Kabongo and company will be taking on Temple who is on a resurgence of in the last few years. The Owls have a defensive rep and it will be a good game to see Kabongo play for sure particularly since he’ll likely go up against the Owls’ own playmaker Juan Fernandez. Fernandez reminds me of another Spanish playmaker of Temple fame, Pepe Sanchez and if Juan is anything like his predecessor, Kabongo could have his hands full trying to stop him from running the Temple offense.
4:00pm Northern Colorado @ Marquette
This is an interesting game on tap today. Marquette is playing a non-conference game against … Northern Colorado? OK. Not exactly a pair of teams you’d put together on a Saturday afternoon but it is a good one to watch for all you Canadian NC-Double-Eh fans. Of course, you should already be well versed in the name of Junior Cadougan. He’s at full strength this season and injury free in a starting job as the Marquette point man. We know that he can play and he’s a fun guy to watch especially when he has live targets to pass to like Darius Johnson-Odom and Jae Crowder. The most interesting thing to keep an eye on is Northern Colorado’s Emmanuel Addo. Most of you, like me, may be scratching your heads as to who this guy is. All I can tell you is that he’s Canadian and is having a pretty decent year for the Bears averaging 8.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 21.8 starter minutes. He’s had good games followed by not so good game all year and has yet to string together back-to-back sets. I don’t know how good he’ll do against Marquette but it should be noted that Addo had 15 points on Iowa State this season, the only other BCS school that Northern Colorado has played.
6:30pm Syracuse @ North Carolina State
Kris Joseph is taking the undefeated Syracuse Orange into Wolfpack country to take on NC State in their house and the game should be a damn good one. Joseph will have likely have to match up against future NBA Draft pick CJ Leslie at the three spot and vice versa and this should be one of the best personal battles of the college season. Both are looking to lead their teams and both are sitting on the verge of cracking the First Round in June. Joseph had been a little inconsistent this season when it comes to coming out strong against weaker opposition but he has definitely showed that he can indeed carry the Orange on his back against the better teams also (see the games against Stanford and Virginia Tech at Madison Square Garden’s). After a 9 point, 8 rebound performance against George Washington last Saturday, will Joseph come out like a caged tiger in this one? Also of note is that Alex Johnson is playing very well in a new role off the bench for the Wolfpack. He’s been a steady play maker and has been able to show his scoring ability when given the chance. This will be an overall great game to catch.
And here is where the rest of the men are playing today in the land of the NC-Double-Eh …
12:00pm Elon @ Dartmouth
12:00pm Mississippi State @ Detroit
1:00pm Iona @ Vermont
2:00pm Albany @ Cornell
2:00pm St. Peter’s @ Long Island
2:00pm Baylor @ Brigham Young – I don’t want to say that Baylor’s Brady Heslip is having a disappointing season to this point because he’s not when you tally up all the great players on the roster. I’m just wondering if this will be the game that he explodes like he did when I saw him in person at Ryerson University this summer just making ridiculous outside shouts.
2:05pm Tennessee Tech @ Evansville
3:00pm Southeastern Louisiana @ Arkansas
4:00pm Bradley @ Drexel
4:00pm Arizona vs. Gonzaga – Gonzaga has been a strange team this season. After romping through their first five games they come up just short against tough Illinois and Michigan State teams. Then they just beat Oral Roberts at home two nights ago. Now they are looking to take on Arizona who is also suffering from strange season syndrome. Both these teams are coming off wins after short losing streaks so it could be a wild, high scoring affair or an ugly slugfest. Yikes.
4:00pm Binghamton @ Hofstra
5:00pm Pacific @ Santa Clara
5:00pm UNLV @ Illinois
6:00pm Northern Arizona @ Arizona State
6:00pm South Carolina State @ Pittsburgh
7:00pm High Point @ Marshall
7:00pm Richmond @ Bucknell – Bucknell’s Bryson Johnson is having a start to the season that I’m sure he’d like to change if he could. Last season’s shooting star, he’s been held scoreless and without a field goal in back-to-back games and then missed the team’s last game against Binghamton due to a minor injury and he may not see action tonight. Richmond’s resident Canuck Francis-Cedric Martel on the other hand is having a steady season for the Spiders and should be a big minute man in this contest.
7:00pm Rider @ UMBC
8:00pm Chattanooga @ Kentucky
8:00pm San Diego @ Stanford – Stanford hasn’t played a game since Dec. 4 when they narrowly beat out NC State at home. Dwight Powell played 13 minutes and tallied 3 points and 3 rebounds in that win. He was coming off an ankle injury in the earlier part of the season and after a two week break let’s see if he’s 100% now. If this game does become a blowout, expect to see a Stefan Nastic sighting.
8:00pm Eastern Kentucky @ Jacksonville State
8:00pm Alabama State @ Saint Louis
8:00pm Arkansas-Little Rock @ Louisiana Tech
8:00pm Lamar @ Rice – Rice’s Dylan Ennis is coming off the best game he’s played all season going for 16 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal in the Owls’ 109-51 crushing of Louisiana in a starting role. What does he do tonight against Texas rival Lamar?
8:05pm Houston Baptist @ Creighton
9:00pm Drake @ Iowa
9:00pm Maryland-Eastern Shore @ Air Force
10:00pm Montana @ Portland
10:05pm Cal State Bakersfield @ Idaho
And here is where the women are playing today …
2:00pm Cincinnati @ Miami (OH)
2:00pm West Virginia @ Duquesne – Reigning Atlantic-10 Conference Player of the Week went for 12 points and 6 rebounds against Akron this past Wednesday.
3:00pm Alcorn State vs. Northwestern State
5:00pm Northern Arizona @ Utah Valley
5:00pm Texas Southern @ Utah – Utah’s inside tandem of Taryn Wicijowski and Michelle Plouffe will be looking to lead this Lady Utes team to another win. Plouffe is averaging 18 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists in her last three games. Wicijowski on the other hand is averaging 5 points in her last two marking the first time she’s had back-to-back single digit scoring games.
5:00pm Louisville @ Portland
5:00pm Pacific @ San Diego
5:05pm Boise State @ Eastern Washington
6:00pm Weber State @ Colorado
7:00pm Indiana State @ Michigan
7:00pm Monmouth @ Manhattan
7:00pm Saint Mary’s @ Seattle U – Seattle’s Elle Kerfoot had one of her best games this season going for 13 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists in the Redhawks’ win over Santa Clara Wednesday.
8:00pm North Texas @ Texas
9:00pm Westminster (UT) @ Southern Utah
