Development Team Europe Bound

OK peeps, after the first few days at the Development Camp earlier this week, the team is now set and ready to take on the world - well some European teams and the Ivory Coast anyway.  There are some great and skilled guys on the team with names you may remember and some you may not.  A great group of players without a doubt but there is something odd about the final roster ...

I know that as Canadian basketball fans, we are all quick to jump on our "Next Big Player" since, relatively speaking, Canada produces so few that make the bigger stages.  Well, I must say that Kris Joseph is one of those players and though he was at the Development Camp for the full week, as far as I know, he did not end up on the final roster.  He has the talent to be there and I would place he before some of the guys that are on the list but why is he missing?  I don't know why.  Maybe he had something come back to haunt him or is he taking this time to re-coop since he mentioned he was getting achy at the camp from the work he's been putting in. Who knows at this point.  All I know is that he's missing and there is a player on the roster that wasn't at the camp.

Bottom line is "What up?"

UPDATE:  Thanks to the wonderful world of Twitter and @ ACMESalesRep, here is the reason Joseph is not with the Development Team in Europe.

And that is why Canada will always suck internationally (basketball wise). Unless it’s his decision not to play, there should be no reason a future star shouldn’t be on this team.

I’d love to say that it’s as simple as him deciding to not play or something else but I can’t. There are some ideas as to why he isn’t playing and we’ll leave it at that.

But I agree, to some point, about the National Program. Unless we can consistently get players of Joseph’s caliber to commit regardless of the situation, we will be middle of the pack at best on the international level.
