well ...
The jury is still out on Matt Bonner. I know he’s persuing his Canadian citizenship and is looking forward to playing on the National Team but just be a matter of time for that to happen. I think FIBA would still have to rule on whether he could play once he has his citizenship but if he gets it in time I imagine there won’t be an issue.
As for who’s playing on the team, we are going to likely find out closer to the summer around NBA Draft time. Expect to see Joel Anthony for sure but other than that it may be a crap shoot. I would expect to see the guys who play overseas like English, Jermaine Anderson, Tyler Kepkay and Levon Kendall barring any injuries. You may even see Jevohn Sheppard, Kyle Landry and Russell Hicks in the mix too. But the college guys are a little tough to figure. Some guys have school to deal with and may not be available and Andy Rautins may decide to do the summer leagues in hopes of boosting his chance of signing an NBA contract which is very possible right now. Bottom line HDave, we will have a better idea after May. Canada Basketball will be bringing in a whole lot of guys to the first training camp and then wittle down as the World Championships get closer. That seems to have been their method the last two summers and it should be the same this year.

well ...
Magloire has now opened himself to the National Team, about 10 years too late, but at his point there is no real reason to have him. He is an NBA vet but he looks like damaged goods at this point. His passing desire to play now may not work well for what Canada wants to accomplish on an international level.
Nash has said that he will no longer play on the National Team and well you really can’t hate the guy for it. He was on the roster for the better part of 10 years not including his time as on the Junior Nats.
Lastly, don’t expect Sammy to be in the red and white this time around. I think things are beyond making up now, at least with Leo. For that matter, don’t expect to see Juan Mendez and Denham Brown also.

Ray if a guy like Jevohn Shepherd who plays in the PBL with the Halifax Rainmmen is in the mix , then a guy like JR Patrick who plays for the Edmonton Energy in the IBL and a european team in the winter months, and also had a NBADL tryout with the Erie Bayhawks, should have no issues in getting invited to the tryout camp. I would also like to see Andrew Parker and Steven Sir who also play european ball and part time ball with the shortened Edmonton Energy season in the IBL, get tryouts, particularly Andrew Parker because he has worked immensely hard at improving his game and I can personally say I think he could hang with any guys who get invited to the canadian camp. If you could refer him to Leo Rautins for a tryout I am sure he would appreciate it. Also hope to see Denham Brown ,Juan Mendez, Tristan Blackwood get looks at the camp as well
Also what do you think of Sefton Barrett? His highlight video is impressive and again he is another canadian who should get a tryout

I love when you comment ...
You always have some name that I forgot about or casual fans may not know about.
See my comment on Mendez and Brown. Bridges may be to charred to repair for now.
As for JR Patrick, I’m sure he can play but honestly I’m not sure how the selection process works out. I would imagine that if the committee thinks he can play, well they would invite him in for the training camp. Whether they do or not is another story. The same would go for Parker and Sir. Leo did bring in the point guard from the Energy last summer but I forgot his name. The same would go for both Blackwood and Barrett. I really liked Blackwood as a college player and I got so see him as a high school player he can play. Barrett had some coaches in his conference saying that he had NBA potential. We’ll wait and see this summer. One thing’s for sure, there will be a bigger talent pool to chose from.

Here are last years rosters to the BC Titans and Energy for canadian players to consider

the energy point guard leo brought in was alex steele, which was a ok pick, but in all honesty if a guy like steele can get a try out than andrew parker deserves a shot because back in their university days they were teammates on the UofA Golden Bears team they played very well together, here is a link to some more canadian players

Also great interview on DNB today ray , the more exposure canadian basketball players get the better and there is no reason why canadian basketball should not grow given the talent coming, so great job and hope to hear more interview with Mr Borbath, also gotta say im still going with Kansas no matter what u think
