Christian Faith Center
Thanks for the articles. I had no idea about the politics or power of grassroots basketball, especially AAU. I love how Russell says “my older guys” It looks like little fiefdoms are starting to emerge even in Canada. While Canadian clubs have always had their politics, they have remained regional. It will be interesting to see how Canada’s grassroots organizations will change in the next few years as minor basketball turns into a major moneymaker.
And we take a turn for the worst ...
AAU programs seem to be running kids lives nowadays and are making decisions that parents should really be making. The regional feel is still true but now it seems to be more cut throat between the “power” AAU programs-teams fighting for kids and even trying to snatch kids from others. The same goes for the organizations too. It’s turning into an very unsvory situation
