The newest RaptorsPeja Stojakovic and Jerryd Bayless — are just trying to fit in or ready to pitch in, depending on which newspaper you prefer to read.

Dave Berri's Wages of Wins Journal ranks last season's most overpaid and underpaid players in the NBA. The Raptors now employ two of the top 15 most overpaid players from 2009-10, in addition to recently employing number two ranked Jermaine O'Neal. Oh, and I might add that Andrea Bargnani was considered overpaid based on his rookie contract.

The latest version of SB Nation's NBA Power Rankings give the Raptors some credit for beating the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics.

Bargnani

would have been “overpaid” at $0 (based on that article), since he contributed a negative number of wins.

Yeah. I mean, it sucks that he has bad WP numbers – and the importance of that is a whole other conversation – but it’s obvious that based on the stats where he doesn’t do well, he is overpaid.

I guess my reaction is just, yawn, what else is new?

I just think the scary thing is that he was considered overpaid on his rookie deal. This season, the extension has kicked in and bumped his salary to another level. His play would have to take a massive leap (beyond just being a one-trick pony) to justify his salary.

It’s not that scary – he would’ve been ‘overpaid’ in that system if he had made nothing at all, because he is negative contributor in that statistical model. So, it really doesn’t matter how much he made.

But yes, we all want to see him improve. But I got no new information out of that article – we all know WP48 hates him (and whether that means something or not has already been discussed to no end). Hearing he is overpaid based on that stat is like saying he needs to get more rebounds – news flash from 2007!

Call out to DS, Franchise and Vicious, (Howland, Howland, Bueller…):

any chance you guys would be interested in doing an article on what Toronto should do with the expiring contract and the TPE? What moves, if you were BC, would you make to push the Raps over the hump to have a legitimate shot? Early in the season, I know, and there are still some question marks (how DD does, Bayless, Davis, will Bargs hold up the scoring pace), but wondering if 15 games in, we can see any patterns emerge?

will the changes to/development of the roster necessitate a change in coaching personnel?

Seconded. Especially if you made a round-table format with the various contributors so we could explore some alternative paths to take.

The NBA is a combination of business & sport, and as we see in trades, it’s not just Quality that matters. The CBA makes it much more, creating the need for Capologists. Economists with intuitive accounting skills and legal talents, who advise / suggest / create opportunities for the team. Their strength is the logical side – numbers. And like how I would define "Wages of Wins", as someone who took enough micro & macro theory, there is no perfect model that encapsulates everything. It’s not hard to take a stat and make something look good. Or bad.
    .
Wages of Wins have their critics – people who think economists can’t define the human element to a sport, and as such, can’t guarantee their theory.
