The word used was “indefinitely”. Loosely translated, it should mean until he gets it together or we decide to cut him. With all the guys back that they were missing in the backcourt last season, I think Joseph suddenly may be expendable. I’ve heard that it may be academics related and if that’s so, then it shouldn’t be too long. I’m hoping by mid December he’ll be back to playing or he’ll have withdrawn from the school in time to transfer for next term.

I don’t think Tubby has indicated exactly how long Devoe will be out.
I watched a lot of Minnesota’s game last year, and Devoe is probably the best pure scorer on the roster. Al Nolen has reclaimed his starting spot, but his main strength is on the defensive end, he’s not an offensive threat at all. Trevor Mbakwe is the other main guy who was missing last year, and he’s a power forward. Royce White ended up transferring to Iowa State. The freshman aren’t likely ready for big minutes. I’ll bet Devoe returns soon – probably after the Gophers trip to Puerto Rico – and winds up leading the team in scoring. The Gophers need Joseph to contend with Michigan State, Purdue etc in the Big Ten.
Good Point
I watched the team this pre season and yes, Devoe may be their best pure scorer, but with Nolen and Mbakwe back they can still win without Joseph. Maybe not win as many games but they will stay competitive. And after last season’s issues, some of them legal mind you, I don’t think Smith is willing to let another player issue make big news this year. I have a feeling that if the infraction was serious enough to warrant an indefinite suspension Devoe may not be back any time soon. I hope Devoe is back asap but that may be up to him and Tubby making amends.
