Arenas suspension is about right. I don’t understand the love he still gets.

Pistol pose last night

I think that was the proverbial straw that pushed Stern over the edge.

Only question now is whether or not his contract will be voided. Abe Pollin and Stern were really good friends. I’m curious how this will play out. I think there’s like 70+ millions left on the table.

How long do you think he’ll be suspended? How much do you think he deservers?

Robbie Alomar

Thought he deserved to be in the HOF today. I think the spitting incident cost him. He’ll get in next year though.

No euros

Was that the first time Jay’s rolled out a no-euro lineup this year? (Bosh, Amir, Wright, Demar, JJ)

by Aaron Craig on Jan 6, 2010 7:34 PM EST reply actions

Bad at both ends. Looked very tentative on offense. Defense was so-so. A few too many open looks, both inside and outside.

4 point play was awful, but aside from that, this quarter has been much much much better at both ends. Looks like Belli is out of the rotation?

if even Beli shoots

you know it is one of those nighs….

by renato on Jan 6, 2010 7:52 PM EST reply actions

I agree that it looked like a charge w/ Andrea. Good attempt anyway.
Now Jay goes with four Euros and Weems. Liking it.
Belli is a better guy to guard JJ Reddick than Wright. Put Wright on Carter, fine. But not Reddick.

by renato on Jan 7, 2010 4:52 AM EST up reply actions

Different circumstances

Not on NBA property so the NBA took the position that the justice system should deal with it and then the NBA.

Here it was in an NBA lockeroom. He could end up the next Plaxico Burress. Renato we can disagree on ball players but it scares me if you think what Gil and Critter did doesn’t deserve HARSH penalites.

Dave "Howland" Randell
Co-Creator of RaptorsHQ.com

by RaptorsHQ - Howland on Jan 7, 2010 5:51 PM EST up reply actions

I believe we agree on the harsh and we disagree on the meaning of it. A one month suspension would mean a couple of million $ and that is harsh to me (At lest for my wallet). Moreover do not forget this incident has been brought up by the wizards owner, likely with the scope of getting a rid of his contract.

This in a situation where it is known most NBA players do own a gun. So the outstanding thing is he put those guns in the Locker. You want to make an example. OK, do it within reason. Suspended “indefinitely” is not acceptable because it leaves the final punishment up to the mood of one person and I am not used to deal with the mood of an emperor. Punishments are based on (possibly clear) rules everybody have to obey and the punishment should be known in advance, like in any no “bananas republic” system.

by renato on Jan 8, 2010 6:45 AM EST up reply actions

I have to agree..at first I thought it should only be a around 10 games but after seeing him joke around about it I think he should at least be out the rest of the year

by tfulks23 on Jan 6, 2010 8:03 PM EST up reply actions

I think he should lose the rest of the reason.. but not void his contract. Even though it would REALLY help the Wizs if his contract gets voided. He’s a huge albatross right now.

by lolcat on Jan 6, 2010 8:03 PM EST up reply actions

I think people ignore...

how serious it is. If this was any one profession would Arenas have a job? Maybe if he was a hitman for hire or the transporter….but he’s not. He should miss the season and have his contract voided. If I am Washington I wanted out of it anyway.

Around The League

Hawks killing the Nets at halftime, no surprise. Probably be 7 or 8 Hawks in double figures scoring at the end.

Heat up over Boston, 35-30 after 1. Boston has everyone back except KG. Boxscore indicates Dwayne Wade is going off.

Cavs put up 65 in the first half on the Bullets. Shaq has 16 in <10 minutes.

Looks like this game here is the one to watch. Keep it here.

So how did Jose look in the backup role in the first half?

Anyone care to weigh in?

How does Jose look with the 2nd unit? Is it a good fit even though he doesn’t usually take chances or push the pace?

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Jan 6, 2010 8:21 PM EST reply actions

to be Honest

he has been better than jack on both O and D….

by renato on Jan 6, 2010 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

Tentative and pass up a few open shots that I thought he would have normally attempted.

by lolcat on Jan 6, 2010 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

Jose picked up Brandon Bass on a switch and forced a turnover. That was good. He was able to keep in front of White Chocolate. Didn’t look quite as good against Jameer.

by Aaron Craig on Jan 6, 2010 8:24 PM EST up reply actions

I’d like to see Jose resume his place as the best backup PG in the league. Sure, he’s making way too much money to be a backup — but it’s a better role for him on this ball club.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Jan 6, 2010 8:26 PM EST up reply actions

Jose's shooting

Would love to see Jose become almost exclusively a spot-up shooter in this Jack-Jose end of half/game lineup. He could be a real weapon in that capacity, and could get lots of open looks with Hedo or Jack running the O.

by Aaron Craig on Jan 6, 2010 8:23 PM EST reply actions

I don’t agree with calderon as a back up on this team. the second unit plays quick and on the fast break. that’s not jose’s strong suit.

by vicPapa on Jan 6, 2010 8:27 PM EST reply actions

You have to weigh that against what was happening defensively with Jose in the starting lineup.

The way this Magic team can bomb from outside, the next few mins will be scary.

Need Andrea back. Get Wright out of there.

by Aaron Craig on Jan 6, 2010 9:23 PM EST reply actions

So many things I dislike about this team on display right now

Antoine Wright playing in crunch time next to the Jarrett Jack-Jose Calderon backcourt. It’s like Triano has no concept of what his best lineups are.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Jan 6, 2010 9:23 PM EST reply actions

Don't panic

still have a six point lead and the ball with 3 minutes left. Try to keep scoring. Bosh had the ball in good position last time — should have taken it up strong and drawn contact.

by Aaron Craig on Jan 6, 2010 9:24 PM EST reply actions

So he takes Wright out but sticks with the horrific Jack-Calderon backcourt. Honestly, does anyone on the coaching staff watch the games? Or are they just staring into the rafters at the arena?!?

How about a timeout there Bosh?

by Aaron Craig on Jan 6, 2010 9:28 PM EST reply actions

This is why Calderon needs to be traded. It just doesn’t work. Triano has no clue how to make it work.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Jan 6, 2010 9:28 PM EST reply actions

Raps aren’t rebounding so they put in… Belinelli.

by renato on Jan 6, 2010 9:30 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t like the fact that Triano is reacting to what Van Gundy and the Magic are doing instead of setting the tone himself.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Jan 6, 2010 9:31 PM EST up reply actions

Or maybe have Bosh take it at Howard and get him fouled out?

by renato on Jan 6, 2010 9:33 PM EST up reply actions

Not Jose’s fault that the staff doesn’t understand a good lineup. All of us should just boo the Jack Calderon back court and cheer when they are out there alone. Maybe the staff will get it then

by lolcat on Jan 6, 2010 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

19 seconds, Raps up by 2, officials reviewing to confirm that it’s Raps ball.

by Aaron Craig on Jan 6, 2010 9:36 PM EST reply actions

You have to question whether Hedo Turkoglu really cares when he’s launching a fallaway 3 with the Raps up by two and less than 24 seconds remaining.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Jan 6, 2010 9:36 PM EST reply actions

Here we go

Jack misses the back end of the free throws to keep it at a one possession game. If this goes to OT, we’re losing…

Unhappy win? Man. I really hope someone takes the coaching staff out back and gives them a talking to. Preferably Colangelo.

On another note… Why do I think having the two on the court is for political reasons so both have high minutes…

by Raptors HQ - Vicious D on Jan 6, 2010 9:56 PM EST reply actions

It has to be political because it doesn’t make basketball sense. Instead of Jack being aggressive and driving to the basket like he did against the Spurs, you have him playing off the ball and spotting up in the corner for a three pointer.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Jan 6, 2010 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

Don't get the hate for Jose

You guys are right. Jack, Calderon, Turkoglu on floor on the court at same time does not make sense. Almost cost us the game.
Triano is going to half to hurt some feelings but one has to sit near end of close games.

But why is it all on Jose? Thought he ran the offense well and seems that his defense is being put under a microscope.

by Tinmann on Jan 6, 2010 10:25 PM EST reply actions

Our best lineup — according to adjusted plus/minus — is Bosh, Bargnani, Turkoglu, Belinelli and Calderon.

However, at the end of tonight’s game, it would’ve been nice to see Jack with the ball in his hands and the ability to drive and create or draw the foul (witness our lack of free throws in the fourth quarter). Instead, we get treated to Jack playing off the ball and spotting up in the corner like a poor man’s Anthony Parker.
