Game Day Thread - Boston vs. Toronto

Celtics_medium  Raps_medium

Boston Celtics at Toronto Raptors

January 10, 2010

TV:  TSN at 1 PM EST

The Raps go for a fourth straight win today as they take on one of their toughest opponents, the Boston Celtics.  The C's get Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo back so even "sans KG," this should be a tough test for the Dinos.

Big Test Today

This should be a solid litmus test to see just how far along the “improvement curve” the Raps are…looking forward to the tip in about 20.

Too Easy Early

Boston getting whatever they want and Toronto shooting J’s.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:14 PM EST reply actions

DD

Is giving Allen too much room.

by Member29 on Jan 10, 2010 1:15 PM EST reply actions

Which is surprising considering Allen torched him last time.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:16 PM EST up reply actions

Looks like it right now.

Finally Raps go inside with some authority.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:18 PM EST up reply actions

seems their scared to go in

That’s something new from DD.

get a stop now

Toronto Maple Leafs: Bringin' The Pain Since 2009

by LeafFan1989 on Jan 10, 2010 1:21 PM EST reply actions

That's the key

As discussed in my preview, if Toronto can keep attacking inside with Bosh and Bargs, that should play to the Dinos’ favour. Perkins and Wallace aren’t quick enough to guard Bosh or Bargs.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:21 PM EST reply actions

This is Bosh's game to win

Great point in the preview about the danger of Boston’s inside game. If Bosh can put pressure on them and get them in foul trouble…

by Vlad C on Jan 10, 2010 1:21 PM EST reply actions

Bargs

Nice to see him get an easy dunk there – hopefully that gets his outside game going too.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:22 PM EST reply actions

torkgolu needs to hit open shots

by LeafFan1989 on Jan 10, 2010 1:23 PM EST reply actions

Big time – the team needs him to step up after a few suspect performances recently.

by LeafFan1989 on Jan 10, 2010 1:24 PM EST reply actions

Great work by Bosh and Bargs

Since they’ve started attacking the interior, it’s caused big problems for the C’s.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:28 PM EST reply actions

wow, did bargs just get a call?

is he gaining some respect from the refs???

by Vlad C on Jan 10, 2010 1:28 PM EST reply actions

Yep – that’s what happens when you force the refs to blow the whistle. Great to see.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:29 PM EST up reply actions

raptors, especially turk are taking too many bad shots

Jay

Nice work pulling Hedo.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:29 PM EST reply actions

Wow

Maybe Allen’s struggles are the break the Raps need today…

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:31 PM EST reply actions

Anyone at the game here him call it?

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:33 PM EST up reply actions

Bosh and Bargs

Doing a great job here early. Best I’ve seen them look together in a long time.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:33 PM EST reply actions

intensity is picking up

we now need some techs for sheed/perk and a hard foul by jack on rondo, and this officially becomes a rivalry to watch

by Vlad C on Jan 10, 2010 1:35 PM EST reply actions

Jose

Has looked much better going to the rim since his return.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:39 PM EST reply actions

Rotations

Will say this. REALLY like Jay’s sub patterns now…that is, up until the “closing line-up” with Jack and Calderon.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:42 PM EST reply actions

Good First Q

Team got down early but went to their strengths to get back in it. Hopefully the Raps can sustain this as a win would be a HUGE statement.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:43 PM EST reply actions

another pitching battle at the acc

reminds me of last time doc rivers said it was buddy ball until the 3rd qtr

by Vlad C on Jan 10, 2010 1:43 PM EST reply actions

Good ol’ Buddy Ball ha ha.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:45 PM EST up reply actions

you think Bosh gets traded? we dont have anyone else at his level.

Not close

I dread the thought of him leaving.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:45 PM EST up reply actions

So...

Was that non-continuation call much different from Bosh’s “And 1” on Friday?

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:49 PM EST reply actions

There's the And 1

Big after House’s 3.

Really enjoying Jose’s offensive orchestration today.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:50 PM EST reply actions

Bosh

Not doing a great job recently taking care of the ball. A bit too lazy on that one too.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 1:51 PM EST reply actions

Bosh

gotta protect the ball

by elpikiman on Jan 10, 2010 1:52 PM EST reply actions

hedo

what is his deal!
so frustrating!

by elpikiman on Jan 10, 2010 1:55 PM EST reply actions

And then he got outrebounded by Ray Allen there!!!!

Luckily Allen tipped it out of bounds.

I love when they show stats like this

Lonnnnnnnnnnng way to go folks before we start comparing the Raps to LA, Boston etc.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:00 PM EST reply actions

Fouls

Are mounting for Celtics – need to keep seing Toronto attack as FT’s could be a deciding factor today.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:02 PM EST reply actions

thats just not fair by allen

by LeafFan1989 on Jan 10, 2010 2:03 PM EST reply actions

Great D by Jose and Allen banks it home.

by LeafFan1989 on Jan 10, 2010 2:07 PM EST up reply actions

Don't mind that goaltending call

Raps doing a good job trying to protect the rim.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:07 PM EST reply actions

Boston

is getting a little too lucky with their shots, our defence has been solid.

by elpikiman on Jan 10, 2010 2:08 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

Need to see more from the Raps wings on O…that’s making the difference right now.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

Hedo...

… looks perpetually tired and lathargic. Either he has a sleeping disorder or is just totally out of shape.

by MAS11 on Jan 10, 2010 2:10 PM EST reply actions

Bad Media Buy

Maybe today isn’t a good day to show the ads of him lounging with Pizza Pizza?

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:10 PM EST reply actions

Wright

He fooled me. No way he should still be in the league.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:11 PM EST reply actions

Halftime Thoughts

Raps down 9, 59 to 50 but game feels closer than that. Raps can’t seem to get over the hump and TO’s are a big part of the difference.

Also, Raps getting nothing from Hedo and very little from any other wing players.

That needs to change in the second half if TO wants to grab the W.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:15 PM EST reply actions

Poor reffing, hate that Hedo commercial when you see him playing like this.

by bosshogg2323 on Jan 10, 2010 2:21 PM EST reply actions

Refs on Boston's Side Today

Anyway, the Raptors actually look pretty good today, with the exception of Hedo Turkoglu. He looks tired. Most of the team looks intense, which is a blessing. I more blame the reffing than the Raps for this 1st half. It has been god awful!

by Frag on Jan 10, 2010 2:25 PM EST reply actions

NBA seriously losing credibility

by bosshogg2323 on Jan 10, 2010 2:26 PM EST reply actions

Bosh been committing a lot of turnovers last few games

by bosshogg2323 on Jan 10, 2010 2:30 PM EST reply actions

Ray allen

why is he outrunning DD?

by elpikiman on Jan 10, 2010 2:35 PM EST reply actions

Definitely some sketchy calls…Toronto needs to step up the intensity here though.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:38 PM EST up reply actions

We playing like shit. Bosh and Bargs the only ones who look interested

by bosshogg2323 on Jan 10, 2010 2:39 PM EST reply actions

exactly.

by LeafFan1989 on Jan 10, 2010 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

I think there’s a lot of interest from other players like Johnson, Weems and Calderon…but the team isn’t getting enough from the other starters.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

yea, turk and jack arent doin much.

I’d love to see more marco

by bosshogg2323 on Jan 10, 2010 2:42 PM EST reply actions

I would too, even with that basket by Hedo.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:43 PM EST up reply actions

think houston would trade Mcgrady for hedo right now? I’d do it just to be rid of hedo’s contract

by bosshogg2323 on Jan 10, 2010 2:44 PM EST reply actions

thats good D there by the raps

Hedo just hopes they crack 100 so he can go thru the stands looking for ticket stubs, lol

by bosshogg2323 on Jan 10, 2010 2:47 PM EST reply actions

LOL

I just put your comment on Twitter.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:50 PM EST up reply actions

Wallace

how I hate his attitude.

by elpikiman on Jan 10, 2010 2:49 PM EST reply actions

i hate how his attitude gets under cb4’s skin

by bosshogg2323 on Jan 10, 2010 2:50 PM EST up reply actions

With Rasheed on the bench, Raps need to make a run here.

Especially with Hedo out too.

Bosh and Bargs keeping Toronto in this.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:51 PM EST reply actions

get some stops now. just clamp down.

Frustrating game

Just little bounces not going the Raps way either…

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:55 PM EST reply actions

our bigs keeping us hanging around, would love to see someone who could slash to the rim and put some pressure on there defence

by bosshogg2323 on Jan 10, 2010 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

This one ain't over though

If the Raps can tighten up the little things and get some production from a player like Weems or Belinelli, this one’s still there for the taking.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 2:59 PM EST reply actions

Marco

Need this production to get back in it here. Hopefully Triano rides the hot hand and doesn’t bring Hedo back in.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:09 PM EST reply actions

Oh my lord

What was that pathetic excuse for D that Hedo just displayed? He just sort of waved at the ball!

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:17 PM EST reply actions

I can't watch this

Hedo looks like he’s 90 out there.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:18 PM EST reply actions

Rondo

Wow – just a great post move.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:22 PM EST reply actions

Nice little run

But not buying it as long as Hedo is in there.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:25 PM EST reply actions

Moi Aussi

And not sure that’s the shot they wanted from Marco considering Boston’s bigs in foul trouble.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:26 PM EST up reply actions

Hedo

Too little too late here…

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:27 PM EST reply actions

Great ball movement

Like Triano’s decision to give Marco crunch time minutes.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:31 PM EST reply actions

Great D

Especially Andreaon the strong show.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:34 PM EST reply actions

That was the dagger

Pierce didn’t have to do much today, but hit that one when it counted.

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:36 PM EST reply actions

That's all she wrote

Disappointing finish considering the brief run to cut it to 4.

Some good things to take away from this one though, and some important lessons which we’ll get into tomorrow morning.

Thanks for chatting all, we’ll do it again tomorrow night!

by Adam Francis on Jan 10, 2010 3:41 PM EST reply actions

theres just no fight on this team

sure triano got the tech but no player is showing any emotion. the refs are obviously favouring boston and id just like to see the players get up in their faces telling them off. they need to show their frustration no matter if we get a tech. i feel like this team continues to get bullied
