Welcome to Fantasy Heaven
As discussed in this mornings piece, we are happy to launch RHQ Fantasy Hoops.
The good people at PASPN.net have set up a Mock GM League exclusively for RaptorsHQ. So, be the GM of the NBA team of your choice. Be quick, only 30 teams are available, and of course, everyone will want to pick the LA Clippers, right? Who knows? Maybe you can take the OKC Thunder and win one of these (oh no wait that's Howland's team).
Don't like the way David Lee handled the Trevor Ariza negotiations? You can also play as an agent. Sign players, and negotiate deals with the GM's. This is a great way to become smarter about the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, and an even better way to stay informed about our favorite sport. Plus, it's FUN!
Registration is now open, so do it now. The league opens up, and team selections can be made September 1 @ 4:00 pm EST. The NBA Draft is Scheduled for September 13, 2009 @ 7:15 pm. Click on through for the details....
To Join the league of RaptorsHQ GMs:
Note: Agents cannot represent free agents players until free agency starts to prevent tampering, but they can represent contract players.
Overview:
There will be 30 General Manager spots available: one for each NBA franchise. Since this is a new league, we will start by taking over each team’s existing contracts from before the draft. After that, it’s up to you to re-tool your team via trades, draft picks, and free agent signings to form the best team that you can. Since PASPN leagues are governed by the rules of the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA), the Mock GM game mixes fantasy basketball playing with the realities of the business of the NBA.
Once the NBA regular season begins, we will compete in an 18-week Head-to-Head season, where each team has a new opponent every week. You start 8 players (PG, SG, SF, PF, C, UTIL, UTIL, UTIL), and whoever scores more fantasy points wins the matchup. The scoring system is based on NBA.com’s Efficiency rating: ((PTS + TRB + AST + STL + BLK) - ((FGA - FGM) + (FTA - FTM) + TOV )). The top 16 teams qualify for the Playoffs, which take place during the final 4 weeks of the regular season.
Trading during the regular season is possible, but much like the regular NBA, the offseason is when the majority of moves are made. Of course, this is also where your General Manager skills will be tested. But if you don’t want to be a GM, there’s still another way to play. PASPN.net also gives you the option of being an "Agent," where you create a sports agency, sign clients, and work with the GMs to negotiate bigger contracts for your clients. Agents also compete against each other to see whose clients are accumulating the most fantasy points, so there’s some skill and competition involved in that aspect as well. However, you can only be an Agent OR a General Manager, not both.

I will immediately add that I’ll probably not do as good as BC did.

Well I don't think anyone can do as good a job as BC did this year. But who knows??
You can be the BC of the RaptorsHQ Mock GM league
lol. I need agreeable GMs to take advantage of. I mean jeeze, that’s a lot of dead wood there… And a lot of it might not even be in the league!

They will open up when the countdown strikes zero
The only people with teams are the site mods for now. Everyone else can pick September 1st at 7PM EST on that GM page
I hope nobody wanted the T-Wolves! Hopefully I can make better choices than the former journalist they have running the squad now. Haha.

I think I might have missed out on a team. The league looks full so it sucks to be me. I guess I will have to wait until next year. Good luck to yall.
Hmm… Can you still be an agent?
Anyways, you can always point and laugh ;)

Agents
You can still sign-up. Even if you don’t get a team immediately they remove GMs who are not active and go to the next person on the list.

Love the set-up
I’ve been searching for a realistic fantasy baseball league for a long time. The vanilla Yahoo fantasy experience got boring a long time ago, looking forward to the challenge of a stiffer competition and working my way through all the crazy cap rules.
One question though: Is this meant to be a legacy league that would continue beyond the 2009/2010 season? That would have a significant impact on what team I would choose: it would be torture to own a team like the Knicks this year, but if you’ve got all that cap space to look forward to, it could be tolerable.
