INTRODUCING THE NEWEST RAPTOR
Sources: Raptors nab Belinelli - Yahoo! Sports
The Toronto Raptors’ intrigue with running a European-modeled franchise advanced again with a trade for Golden State guard Marco Belinelli, NBA sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night.

Doug Smith's Toronto Raptors blog
For almost a year, Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo has been chasing guard Marco Belinelli of the Golden State Warriors. He got him. A conference call to confirm the deal is scheduled for late Thursday morning...

Wow. I like

Isn’t Belinelli a 2 though? I think he’s too small to play the three, what does that to Wright’s and DD’s minutes, plus it seems like the team still needs a back up 3. I like the move though, Belinelli’s a lot younger and still has plenty of upside. And hopefully it’ll keep Bargnani happy and motivated having another Italian around.

Plus, Toronto can trot out an all Euro lineup. Jose, Belinelli, Turkoglu, Bargnani, and Rasho.

He's mostly played 1 and 2 with Goldenstate but...

He definatley could play the three because he is big enough at 6’5" and is a succicent defended

Now starting at SG for your Toronto Raptors...

I think the Legomaster has pulled off one of his famous Hoffa-for-Humphries type deals by shipping out Devean George for Marco Belinelli. And Belinelli is probably going to earn the starting nod when the season starts (unless he completely falls on his face during the preseason).

Plus, they get to bring DeMar DeRozan along slowly and let him get in his reps vs. the second units of opposing teams.

Also interesting to read the comments on the Golden State of Mind blog. Most fans seems to think the Warriors got ripped off.

Yup. 96 comment thread over at GSOM. Bellinelli is interesting, but now we officially have a sort of log-jam at the guard positions. It’ll be interesting to see if the Raptors can get something out of both Bellinelli and DeRozan at the same time, but I think this is the right coaching staff and team for Marco.

Belinelli should...(GSW fan watch all the games)

Do much better in this system cause they actually have some type of offense. becasue on golden state belinelli would pass the ball and never get it back with the likes of jackson, crawford, maggette, monta ellis. Those guys are all one on one players so there was not enought shots for belinelli. I am a Warrior fan but now going to follow the Raptors casue of Belinelli.

Great move!

Can we get rid of Ukic or (wishful thinking) Banks?
Delfino back to Russia.
Pops for 12th man.
Still need a cheap, defensive SF – Ime Udoka?

pops?

new player and new fan. lol cool. well with this trade being official, i believe BC is now going to sign pops instead of adding delfino. i love it! delfino is decent but definitely not worth 5 mil even for one year. now having a similar player in belinelli, we can now grab pops who is a terrific rebounder and energy type guy, and can play sf because Pops did mention they told him to practice his game in sf. so welcome belinelli and hopefully pops mensa bonsu

If camp started right now, CJ Watson be competing with Ellis, Curry, Law and maybe even Marco Belinelli, who is perhaps the Warriors’ best at defending the point guard position. – Mercury news

Two years ago, local scribes wasted a ton of ink writing up Marco Belinelli’s exploits in the summer league. -Vittorio Taffur, Examiner

Snipers tend to start rushing their shots when they get to the NBA, messing up their release point and preventing them from being the dead-eye shooters they’re capable. Recently, this has been the case for Marco Belinelli of the Golden State Warriors, who has struggled to see consistent playing time because his jumper hasn’t been right in a while. – Hoopsworld

Another possible trading partner would be Golden State, and perhaps wishful thinking like the previously mentioned trade possibilities would have Bosh going to California for the services of Italian guard Marco Belinelli, Latvian center Andris Biedrins, two good quality Europeans who would also fit in with Colangelo’s mold in Toronto. – Malungu Vincent , June 7 Belcher Report

Marco can play

When he had a chance to play in Dec ’08 for GSW.

15gms, 30min, 45%fg, 38%fg3, 89%ft, 1.0stls, 2.6rbs, 3.2ast, 14.1ppg

never got another chance for consistent PT, for some reason, then was injured.

Should be a good fit with Raptors, who wanted to draft him, and been trying to trade for him for over a year, as BC is a believer.

Bellinelli

Colour me among those who think this is a total hosing of the GSW. Retread Devean George and cash for a starting 2 Guard with size, range and Italian heritage?

That is a bucket full of awesome.

Another young, talented piece of the puzzle BC is building in TO.

Maybe he should see if we can get Biedrins for Voskuhl and a future second. I mean, one absurd deal deserves another, right?

Great trade

BC is definitely doing his best to provide talent to what was a less talented team from last year. It’s going to be up to the coaching staff to get everyone on the same page. I think the distribution of minutes will be paramount for the Raptors (especially if they’re pacing themselves for the playoffs). I have their depth chart looking something like this:

5 – Bargnani Nestrovic O’Bryant

4 – Bosh Evans (Menash-Bonsu)

3 – Turkoglu Wright

2 – DeRozen Belinelli Douby

1 – Calderon Jack Ukic Banks

What do you guys think?

by 6264 on Jul 30, 2009 1:17 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah, that’s a pretty natural conclusion. But it points out a few deficiencies with this club still

It’s great to pick up guys on the cheap and hope they can play. But we need to start picking up multi-skilled players instead of a number of guys who only do one, maybe two things well.

by bigweeze on Jul 30, 2009 2:24 PM EDT reply actions

Belinelli is a multi skilled player

He defends pretty well, shoots the ball, can handle, and pass. only thing that needs improving is rebounding
