Revisiting: Bosh to Golden State

Last season, Golden State had an offer on the table for Chris Bosh.  At the time, I didn't consider it too strongly, but in the wake of Anthony Randolph's wildly successful summer league (and subsequent Team USA invite) I feel it's at least worth another thought.

Anthony Randolph and Andris Biedrins for Chris Bosh

  • Were you in favour of or against the trade at the time?
  • What are your thoughts now?
  • How about prior to the summer league and opening of the free agency period?

If your answer changes from situation to situation, I'd be interested to hear why.

If this trade was put back on the table, would you accept it?

I have to say I’m surprised at the result! No to a 23 year-old C who can rebound, defend, and score at a high % (19.1 PER), plus a 20 year-old PF who in his rookie year (at 19 years old) averaged 7.9 pts, 5.8 reb, 0.7 stl, 1.2 blk (16.9 PER). That’s a solid duo with good height that would be expected to develop further while anchoring a frontcourt for the foreseeable future.

I know there are/were plenty of people who thought trading Bosh was a good idea. So as NBA observers what would be a fair offer? It’s clearly very bad timing to trade Bosh before the season, but this is just a hypothetical to gauge his value.

I would get them to take Marcus Banks, and I’d take back Speedy Claxton (5M+ that expires in 2010) and I’d try to sqeeze a first round pick out of them. or I’d rather have Monta Ellis than Biedrins. 5 years 9 mil is a lot for a 10 and 10 guy. We already have 50 mil commited to a 18 and 9 guy, Bargs. But a line up of Bargs, Randolf, Hedo, Ellis and Calderon looks good. NOW WAY GS does it though.

Bosh trade

Bosh for Randolph and Biedrins doesn’t work under the cap. If you add on Claxton or someone else it would. Do I think this is fair value for Bosh? Yes I do. Do I think GS would do the deal? Not a chance. Randolph is an up and comer on a cheap contract. Biedrins rebounds, blocks shots and produces well for 9 mill per. Moreover, Bosh has an opt out after this year, so if he isn’t traded to a team that he will commit to for another contract then that deal isn’t going down. I don’t see GS as a destination Bosh would be happy with.

I think a concern with the cap last year was that Biedrins was a BYC player, but now those concerns are over with. The trade may not work exactly, but teams always trade ballast floating around.

It’s funny how things change in a year. That the #14 pick can become such a hot commodity in one season is pretty wild. Even if CB4 were locked up, this is an awfully tempting trade at this point.

i would’ve done this trade if we could’ve switched picks and got the number seven to select jordan hill or steph curry.
an ellis/randolph/hill for bosh/ derozan looks good to me
or even the original biedrins/randolph/curry. although so far derozan has looked more impressive than curry in summer league for whatever thats worth

Bosh for Biedrins/Randolph

I brought up the Warriors before the Warriors even brought up the Warriors, and pondered this very deal; but with the inclusion of a pick and/or them accepting a bad contract from us.

Anyways, that’s enough smack from me. However, come the end of the 2009/10 season Bosh for Biedrins and Randolph will look like a steal for the Raps; Randolph has looked like the real deal for a while, and if given a chance by Nellie he will definitely win at least most improved this year by averaging about 17 and 7. But now that we have signed Turk, this deal makes no sense for the team since it would have Biedrins, Bargs, Turk AND Randolph with only 3 starting forward spots, which means somebody comes off the bench and I’m not paying Biedrins 10 mil per to be a back-up Centre to Bargs.

You guys need to forget this trade, it won’t happen with Turk now in town.

Too late

Golden State will not pull this trade anymore, especially if AB is in it. Randolph is the PF of the future for the Warriors and he is seen as a future all-star

In a perfect world...

If this deal even made it to BC’s blackberry, I’m sure the instant response would be “call the NBA head office and get this approved now!”. As much as Bosh currently is a more developed and polished star player (not to be confused with a Max Value player which I personally do not feel he is), the combination of Randolph/Biedrins would provide a younger, still talented option that for the short term would provide more financial flexibility as well as talent at 2 positions.

Based on the fact that they are a better financial option though, I don’t see Golden State ever providing that option to the Raptors again. They’ve already proved their need to keep costs down with recent trades (with the Raptors no less), so why would they go for CB4 who is expecting to sign with a team at the end of this season for max value…
