Big one

Sorry, a bit late here thanks to the TTC – hopefully we see an A+ effort from the Raps tonight – they need this one big time!

Conflicted

I’m Conflicted. I’d like a Raps win but hoping for big games from Butler, Jamison and Arenas…I have Washington in the fantasy tourny

by WinnipegRaptorFan on Dec 1, 2009 7:13 PM EST reply actions

Ah the old fantasy debate…

Well, with the way both teams have been playing, Washington’s big 3 can still put up 30 each and Toronto could win.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 7:20 PM EST up reply actions

Sloppy game so far

But low scoring partly because of it. Jose’s looked more aggressive but hasn’t been able to capitalize.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 7:24 PM EST reply actions

BARGS!!!!

why are you so lame sometimes?!?!?!?!?!?!

by elpikiman on Dec 1, 2009 7:29 PM EST reply actions

Same issues in the first quarter so far – inconsistent play from the Raps on offence, virtually no D.

Luckily the Wiz haven’t exactly been able to take advantage…

How’s it going so far?

Ok I guess…hard to say…down 1 with less than a minute left but both teams are playing pretty poorly.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 7:35 PM EST up reply actions

How could Jose play like this tonight and have played so horribly against PHX?

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Jose

Like a 16 year old who just got his g2

by teedotaj on Dec 1, 2009 7:38 PM EST reply actions

Great compare ha ha.

Team is so inconsistent offensively – great to see Bosh taking charge here.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

seriously..how many points does he have so far off the dribble. he just scored one on the drive again as we speak. right after he fouled arenas and said “im sorry” lol

by teedotaj on Dec 1, 2009 8:33 PM EST up reply actions

I kind of like this lineup

Hedo, 2 PGs and 2 PFs.
Does Amir get a steal or an Off. Reb. for that play?

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 7:49 PM EST reply actions

The Bosh/Johnson front court really looks good at times too.

by Evenflow on Dec 1, 2009 7:50 PM EST up reply actions

Very good

Amir gets into a bit of foul trouble – otherwise I’d start him at the 5 and have Bargs come off the bench. Just a much better fit between Bosh and Amir.

Also – gotta give Bosh a lot of props. Not many PF’s can miss a lay-up like he did, then bounce right back up and cram it. That’s that off-season work paying off.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 7:52 PM EST up reply actions

Great feed by Hedo

About time we saw some of that and nice cut by Bargs.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:04 PM EST reply actions

Bosh

He’s just playing at another level – 18 in the quarter???

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:06 PM EST reply actions

It’s sad because he could do this every single night with the matchups he gets.

by Evenflow on Dec 1, 2009 8:07 PM EST up reply actions

Here comes our defensive stopper

Sonny Weems. Second game in a row Jay has done this. I like Gilbert here.

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 8:09 PM EST reply actions

Shaking head

How many times have the Raps screwed up their last play and had the opponent score to beat the buzzer this year?

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:10 PM EST up reply actions

Nash has four turnovers in the first quarter — Knicks up by 11
Boston is up by 20 or so over Charlotte at the half.

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 8:14 PM EST reply actions

Halftime Thoughts

First off, we’re watching 2 very bad teams here.

Second – it’s like looking in the mirror. The Wizards jack up as many bombs as Toronto and as many being “ill-advised.”

Third – Where would this team be without Bosh??? He’s been unreal and he needs a lot more help. Jose’s been good – playing at the level I expect each and every night. Andrea’s been ok too.

But after that…

Hedo? Hello? If you’re not going to defend, you AT LEAST need to put up some points! DeRozan has as many shots as him!

On the Wizards side, Jamison being the glue guy for them. You get the feeling watching this group that they’ve got too many spare parts and need to make a trade. Just no chemistry.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:15 PM EST reply actions

Former Raptors always kill us. Does Jamison count?

I think Jay thought Marco flopped a couple of times trying to draw a foul (instead of busting back and playing some D), and put Marco on the bench for awhile.

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 8:20 PM EST up reply actions

Marco hasn’t played well tonight – just forcing things on offense. With Bosh going so well and running with you, don’t try and go through 3 Wizard defenders yourself…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

Cruch time here folks...

3rd quarter as the stats show, killing this team lately…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:27 PM EST reply actions

Here come the 3's...

Let’s see if the offence can carry the Raps through this quarter.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:29 PM EST reply actions

And...

…wow Washington’s shot selection is terrible…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:30 PM EST reply actions

As we lead by one, we have a similar problem.

by Evenflow on Dec 1, 2009 8:31 PM EST up reply actions

And...

…wow Arenas looks bad on D.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:31 PM EST reply actions

Jose was 5-6 in the first half — exactly the numbers I predicted for the 2d half against PHX. I was just a bit late…

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 8:33 PM EST reply actions

Yep, would have been nice to have those stats Sunday. Hopefully Turk can be a “game late” here too.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:38 PM EST up reply actions

There was one play in the second that had me laughing out loud.

The Wiz rebounded the ball in the paint, went back up with it, missed the shot, tried again, missed, then finally Haywood slammed it down. All the while, Hedo just sorta jumped up and down beside him waving his hands…fantastic D.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

Missing Bosh

That last play was a snapshot of what happens if he goes…Bargs and Hedo both outrebounded by Haywood…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions

8 and 7 for both of them right now respectively..

by teedotaj on Dec 1, 2009 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

Yep – but lots of empty ones – not too many “Amir-ish” grabs in traffic.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

still

It shows that they are usually in the right places.

by teedotaj on Dec 1, 2009 8:49 PM EST up reply actions

Jose and Andrea

How often does Jose pass the ball to Bargs off a screen and roll? Jose usually takes that shot instead of passing to an open Andrea rolling towards the rim.

by teedotaj on Dec 1, 2009 8:41 PM EST reply actions

Andrea doesn’t get enough looks on offence. I bet if you looked at the stats you’d see that the vast majority of Andrea’s shots come from trailing a play, or being the last option swinging the ball around the perimeter.

Very few individual one-on-one sets or screen-n-roll options.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:43 PM EST up reply actions

Raps need some bench performance here...

…or else solid nights by Bosh, Bargs and Jose will be for naught.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:48 PM EST reply actions

On hold in the office right now.
Wassup guys? Any aggression?

by Raptors HQ - Vicious D on Dec 1, 2009 8:49 PM EST reply actions

Not enough

Some from Bosh of course, and Bargs and Jose bringing it tonight…but nothing from the bench really.

Amir with some nice rebounds in traffic, Jack with a few nice drives…but that’s it.

Boykins has had more of an impact.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 8:50 PM EST up reply actions

I wouldn’t call this a particularly aggressive outing, sorry VD

Blatche seems to have taken a step or two back this year — though I’m basing that entirely on tonight. Not showing very high BBIQ tonight.

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply actions

He just never has been able to put it all together – he’s like the PF version of Joey Graham.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:01 PM EST up reply actions

I like our chances here

Despite being tight, this game has felt in control all night. I feel pretty confident.

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply actions

I don’t mind that one, he’s mixing it up pretty well still. Want to see the Raps lock things down here though with a final push…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:02 PM EST up reply actions

It will be interesting to see

If we go to the Hack-a-Shaq (or Hack-a-Brendan) once Washington’s in the bonus.

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 9:02 PM EST reply actions

Big man triple double

10 FGs, 10 FTs, 10 REBs. CB4 has a good shot at it tonight.

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 9:03 PM EST reply actions

He’s playing so well – I’ve been critical of him in the past but hard to pick holes in his game this year…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:06 PM EST up reply actions

How’s the 4th starting? Who’s on the court?

Up by 4, coming out of a TO now

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

Marco, Amir, Jack, Hedo, AB

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 9:06 PM EST up reply actions

Dogfight

Both these teams have similar weaknesses so I think it will be a close fight ot the end.

Terrible foul by Hedo in a tie game.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:07 PM EST up reply actions

Johnson, Bargs, Jack, Belinelli, Turks

Thnx.

GREAT REBOUNDING

First Bargs, then Bosh…

…and nice aggressive move by CB4.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:08 PM EST reply actions

Aaarrrgh...

Terrible shot selection by Turk.

GIVE THE BALL TO BOSH.

lol. He might have been listening to devlin too much

Sorry, its “Mr. Fourth Quarter” time.

by Evenflow on Dec 1, 2009 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

Time for Jose to get to the rim

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 9:12 PM EST reply actions

Offense has stalled

And the D ain’t good enough. Same story, different quarter.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:16 PM EST reply actions

Hooo boy, this is trouble

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 9:17 PM EST reply actions

And Boykins is pressuring the hell out of the Raps – great decision by Flip to leave him in.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:19 PM EST up reply actions

Now the Raps will rely on their grit and mental toughness to carry them through.

by Evenflow on Dec 1, 2009 9:20 PM EST up reply actions

Who’s on the court?

CB4 not getting it done with the right hand tonight

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 9:20 PM EST reply actions

Think it speaks volumes...

…that Boykins and Haywood were the difference makers down the stretch.

Exact type of gritty guys the Raps don’t have.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:23 PM EST reply actions

Foul Haywood, foul Haywood

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 9:24 PM EST reply actions

HEDO

Oh

My

Lord

That defensive stance might have killed things right there.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

Bailed out by the refs here on the foul call

by Aaron Craig on Dec 1, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

Wow

Crazy finish.

Missing FT’s, great play by Amir Johnson.

Leo’s right – hustle plays are going to decide this one.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:26 PM EST reply actions

Amir Johnson is one of the biggest bright spots this year.

by Evenflow on Dec 1, 2009 9:26 PM EST reply actions

Stop saying that Leo

He WASN’T huge – he was just on TV a lot so the perception was that he was always making big shots. Statistically he wasn’t even as “clutch” as Bosh or Parker!

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:31 PM EST up reply actions

Here we go...

Doesn’t matter if Earl makes one or two here, Raps need to attack at the other end.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:33 PM EST reply actions

Nah, they’ll do that instead.

by Evenflow on Dec 1, 2009 9:34 PM EST up reply actions

Oh Hedo

I hope BC is watching this VERY closely.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:35 PM EST reply actions

Now thats a man who hits the big ones.

by Evenflow on Dec 1, 2009 9:35 PM EST up reply actions

No kidding

Sitting here trying to collect my thoughts after another bad loss on a number of levels.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:40 PM EST up reply actions

Recap

This one’s gonna be fun…I get to explain how Toronto had 3 starts with 20 or more points and yet still lost…

…well…there’s a lot more to it obviously but for a team that couldn’t get consistent offensive production from the starters, to get it and still lose, it’s tough.

Thanks for chatting as always folks, we’ll do it again tomorrow night.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Dec 1, 2009 9:46 PM EST reply actions

don't be a hero turk

should be the title of your recap. raps need to forget this myth that Turk is a big time shot maker. He’s got some good skills on O, moves the ball and can put up some points on a good night. That’s it. The money we spent for him is sunk cost, move on and he is what he is. Stop relying on him in crunch time.
