Toronto Raptors vs San Antonio Spurs
November 9, 2009
TV: RaptorsTV at 8:30 pm
Here we go, another solid test for the new-look Toronto Raptors. They catch a break not having to face a Spurs' team at full strength, but best believe this game won't be a cake-walk. The Spurs are still one of the toughest defending teams in the league night-in and night-out, and still boast a formidable cast under Coach Pops.

Weirdo-Kaneirdo
So no Parker…now it sounds like no Tim Duncan.
Easy win right?
Well…if there’s a game. Apparently the Spurs in-game crew has been working on the floor all day because of a sticky residue left from an earlier cleaning…
…stay tuned.
Game is a go!
No Duncan, but apparently SA and NBA officials are giving the thumbs up on playing on the court.
Bargs and Bosh starting out well. No reason Toronto should lose this one, SA just doesn’t have the talent tonight.
Worried about Blair
With no Duncan and foul issues for Ratlif early, I’m guessing Toronto is going to get a heavy dose of DeJuan…
Well… SA lost to us when we didn’t have Bosh and Calderon. Is this a replay?

Raps are playing like a D League team
Not being aggressive, not taking advantage of mismatches, and not moving the ball very well.
Lol. What happened to “I like the way the Raps are playing right now – nothing fancy, just taking what’s given to them.” ??

Man… I remember being at Harbour Grill for our HQ meeting last year and watching Ukic tear the Spurs apart with Bosh or Calderon. Good times. Then the feed went out and we had to watch it on my tiny netbook…

what a flop by blair!
foul trouble for the spurs’ bigs is another reason we cannot lose this game
I'll keep my finger crossed....
lok at the number of shots attempted by Chris, it is is way too high, normally when he takes that many shots it ends up in a L. Not a Bosh issue but a distribution one.
last i remember...
he took a 3 with about 15 left on the shot clock
and now that dunk
I am sure.....
Bonner was just as astonished…..
They are toying with an inferior team, but it is dangerous not killing them off, if they keep being in the game, the adrenaline will take over and they will be in for some troubles
63-63 at the half
if the spurs, without duncan and parker, score 120pts on us, shouldn’t we wonder what iavaroni’s job is?
Halftime breakdown
-Raps getting pounded on the glass 21 to 13
-Raps allowing SA to shoot TWENTY-TWO free-throws
These two issues are completely negating Toronto shooting 63% from the field.
Lot of work to do in the second half if TO wants to win this one.
It stands for Blocks Against – number of times the opposition blocks the shot of a particular player.

Wait, isn’t it Blocks Attempted? It’s how many alterations there were on a shot.

still I must disagree with that stat so…
positives
- bosh is dominating again
- calderon seems to be back to form
- 3 ball is dropping
- aforementioned foul trouble for the spurs
if only we can get some sort of bargs/hedo/wright action…
And the team needs to REALLY clean up the D. Just too much trust unfortunately and so players aren’t rotating.

No, trust seriously. Last play no one looked to rotate to help DeRozan because they though he could contain Bogans on the perimeter.
Wrong.

I’ve noticed that people have forgotten to give Bargs touches while he posts up… Is that a big reason why he’s not doing much?

I want to puke...
…Raps look TERRIBLE right now.
Yes, George Hill has a great arsenal of one-on-one moves…but what’s with the no help??
typical 3rd quarter brain farts all around
can this be as simple as the difference between popovich and triano? you gotta hand it to pop, couldn’t have picked a better game to sit duncan and parker
I guess the Raptors want to practice playing a close game for 48 minutes

Great, here comes more DeJuan Blair.
by Adam Francis on Nov 9, 2009 10:18 PM EST up reply actions
A bit of that…plus a bit of “higher IQ players on SA,” and a bit of “9 new guys on a team.”
by Adam Francis on Nov 9, 2009 10:28 PM EST up reply actions
not to bash triano...
obviously this is an established spurs team vs a raps team that looks like it just had an expansion draft…
weeeeeeeeeems!
maybe all this rest time that bosh is getting will make the difference in the 4th
papa
nice to see sonny out there…maybe he’ll add a little speed to the game.
Garbage call
He barely touched him and Manu flew into the bench like Tyson hit him.
by Adam Francis on Nov 9, 2009 10:32 PM EST up reply actions
papa
then he gets played by ginobs. no shame there. the ginobs is a master of that nonsense.
the spurs broadcast keeps giving us close-ups of the local cheerleaders
i have a feeling i should be thankful that internet feeds are not HD…
papa
mind you, the kid isn’t kobe. so both the makes he took probably shouldn’t be happening. but he made them. so all’s good.
jesus. Are they trying to tire each other out by how many shots they take? What is this?!

should weems be guarding manu in the 4th quarter...
or rather never?
papa
and there’s that kobe shot kobe would make. but bells…not so much.
This is exhausting
Raps somehow are still in this with 0 defence. I want Weems back and Hedo to sit.
there's a lot of anger brewing around here...
bosh and bellineli are our only hopes right now…
manu
is crazy good though. I can only fault triano for not stopping the play to let things settle down earlier.
And I’m starting to not care whether Bosh leaves or not, it’s not like he’s a huge factor in these games.
It’s not the offense here that’s the thing, it’s the absolutely DISMAL defense. You can’t let someone like Manu get going…unreal.
by Adam Francis on Nov 9, 2009 10:56 PM EST up reply actions
no way one player should win a game BY HIMSELF in the nba
unless of course they’re playing the raptors, specialists in making the impossible happen
How Triano decides to bring us back into games like this makes me question some of the philosophy of this team. This team should be getting aggressive when things get tough, instead, it’s starting to look like this team gets passive and tries to shoot 3s to get back into things and such… If what I’m hearing is correct, it sounds like another game that’s like that…

it's a shame though
cause they had this game sooooo much earlier. it should never have come to this. now manu is on fire and good luck.
This game is a suicide from Toronto’s side. Careless distribution and execution. A display of bad strategy, distribution and execution.
the fact is that's how they played the whole game
it’s just that now the shots aren’t falling any more
Maybe this helps them learn the hard way although with chuckers like Belinelli and Hedo, I doubt it.
by Adam Francis on Nov 9, 2009 11:03 PM EST up reply actions
terrible...
Why does it seem like our players are never open on the offensive end… a friggin entry pass to the low post is a frigging chore…
Bang on
This team has so much work to do.
And Devlin ain’t helping by hyping up more 3’s. It’s the non-stop focus on 3’s and not on D that’s hurt this club the past two matches.
by Adam Francis on Nov 9, 2009 11:02 PM EST up reply actions
This has to do with our guards just focusing on feeding Chris, it is their job to keep everybody in the game, otherwise your game become predictable and you have no other options as everybody else has gone cold in the meantime, not to mention their defensive focus may fade if they see they a e getting ignored when they shouldn’t be. These games are missed opportunities, The Raptors team is way better than these Spurs and they should have won. They have lost the game and they brought this to themselves.
I dunno if it was trying to feed Chris
I think Bosh sat most of the 3rd quarter, our most fluid offence seemed to come when we had weems, bellinelli, jack, johnson and bargs on the court… (although bargs really didn’t do much during that time) I’m surprised Bargs was out there with that unit rather than Bosh… not sure what was going on there. Bosh comes back in when he was 13/13 at the ft line.. then proceeds to go 2/4 the last few trips… ugh… Hedo was labouring all night…
I was thinking that earlier. Notice how much his game and that of Mason Jr’s has improved in the San Antonio system?
They probably could have made Hoffa useful…
…ok…maybe that’s a BIT of a stretch.
by Adam Francis on Nov 9, 2009 11:05 PM EST up reply actions
Well that's it...
In my books, this is the most frustrating and inexcusable loss since the team got thumped by Denver last year and Mitchell got K-Oed.
Just maddening.
Recap will be up in the morning, won’t be pretty in all likelyhood.
Great chatting though as usual, we’ll do it again Wednesday night!
i seriously just cried
holy fhxjsjhfjsfjsashitnkshjsfh…. i agree with renato this was the worst loss out beats dallas and memphis. poor performance, i know it was close but they just let the spurs rack up the lead in the 4th and was too late to start playing. and whats up with the d? best offense in the nba but also the worst defense. i wanted to slap the sh*t out of manu so bad. god this kills so much. now how am i gonna wake up for school tomorrow. i wont be able to sleep tonight
Just watching the "highlights"
Seriously, does this team have ANY pride defensively?
Wasn’t Mark Iavaroni hired because of his supposed defensive expertise?
WTF?!?!
This team must be on pace to be historically awful on the defensive side of the ball.
