Toronto vs New Orleans: Game Day Thread

Toronto Raptors at New Orleans Hornets, Nov 6, 2009 8:00 PM EST

Toronto Raptors vs New Orleans Hornets
November 6, 2009
TV: TSN at 8:00 pm

The Raps kick off a tough little stretch out West with a date in NO against the Hornets this evening.  With New Orleans still trying to integrate some of their new personnel, this should be a tightly contested affair featuring some great individual match-ups like Bosh vs West and Bargnani vs. Okafor.

Franchise will be checking in to chat along with the rest of the HQ crew in what hopefully ends up being Toronto's third win of the season.

Disgusting

Good thing Armstrong travelled because that last play was a prime example of how bad this team is on the glass.

Bargs inexplicably switched off his man leaving Hedo to box out Hilton. Not only could Hedo not do it, but Bargs, who recovered, couldn’t either!

Didn’t Paul produce over 30 wins by himself last season? I mean, he basically almost made the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference!!!

Wow, he is a lottery team in itself!!!!

by renato on Nov 6, 2009 9:18 PM EST up reply actions

The idea being that Paul teamed with Bosh and an average supporting cast probably wins 50 games.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 6, 2009 9:20 PM EST up reply actions

That would be an interesting simulation…just pair those two with average or below average team-mates…like last year’s Raptors…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 9:21 PM EST up reply actions

Yep, and he’s streaky, I’m just waiting for him to heat up.

Ok...

…that was a garbage possession by Calderon. Paul with some GREAT D forcing a terrible shot.

But…Jose came right back and took the charge – great play. He’s pumped. Should be a good finish now.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 9:45 PM EST reply actions

Wow

Great team D again…almost fell out of my chair!

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 9:46 PM EST reply actions

Here comes Andrea on O and on D

by renato on Nov 6, 2009 9:46 PM EST reply actions

It is actually better than that, there are SO may gnners this team can survive some of them having a so and so night, which means, on average, this could be an elite team

by renato on Nov 6, 2009 9:49 PM EST up reply actions

Loving this energy...

…sitting here all smiley ha ha. I also really like that Triano has Johnson play the passing lanes.

It lookslike the glass was Half full indeed…..

by renato on Nov 6, 2009 9:51 PM EST reply actions

I mean - I can't even believe this display from deep!

One thing you have to say for BC…he knows that there’s nothing more discouraging than having another team rain 3’s down on you all night.

And if nothing, that’s what this team is built to do.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 9:52 PM EST reply actions

At least for this evening, I believe you are not giving the D it’s due…

by renato on Nov 6, 2009 9:53 PM EST up reply actions

I will

While not lock-down, the D held the Hornets within striking distance in the second until Bosh took over, and the rest of the team got going.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

Now....

we can’t ONLY shoot three’s……

LOL

Someone needs to photoshop that!

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 9:57 PM EST up reply actions

Hornets suck

Outside of Chris Paul, this team is terrible. How in the world are they going to make the playoffs in the West?

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 6, 2009 9:58 PM EST reply actions

I don’t know – especially because Phoenix I think just beat Boston!

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 9:59 PM EST up reply actions

And then you have Houston that looks like a playoff team…

Question for the audience: Do the Raps STILL look to you just like a .500 team?

by renato on Nov 6, 2009 9:59 PM EST reply actions

not really a fair question.....

based on tonight no. Based on the season thus far absolutely.

by renato on Nov 6, 2009 10:01 PM EST up reply actions

When they win tonight....

they will be 3-2 with losses to the Grizz and Pistons..

Still a .500 squad.

Grizz and Magic, but you can also say they are the one that let the Grizz back in a game they were basically wining and, despite an outstanding shooting Orlando has been within striking distance till the very end. The same sharpshooters who could not miss against us went deadly cold the night after. Teams (and opponents) have ups and downs and it really matters on who you encounter when.
There is to say that time is working in favor of the Raps, gelling wise and calender wise

Talk to me at the end of this 7 of 8 on the road against the West…

I will

I am like taxes, you can put ’em away for a while but they come back biting your s**

by renato on Nov 7, 2009 5:52 AM EST up reply actions

They do to me. I’m not going to allow myself to get too excited unless they win the next two as well. I think more than anything, this game has shown 3 things:

-Bosh is dominating
-If Calderon and Bargs get going along with Bosh, this is a very dangerous offensive team
-New Orleans has one of the worst offenses in the league.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 10:01 PM EST up reply actions

Antoine Wright

What an impressive player. And when you hear stories about his unselfishness (today’s Globe and Mail), you realize what a great acquisition he appears to be.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 6, 2009 10:07 PM EST reply actions

Favourite player on this team after Weems.

And a 3 on cue!

The other thing is that he’s deceptively athletic. He’s got another step that surprises. You forget he was a scoring monster at Texas A&M.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 10:09 PM EST up reply actions

True. It’s funny to think that all these guys were “the man” at some point, somewhere. And to see a guy like Wright transform himself into such a team-first player is impressive.

I believe the Raps have scored 100+ points in every game now, haven’t they?

by renato on Nov 6, 2009 10:17 PM EST up reply actions

Yep. this offence is firing in all cylinders.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 6, 2009 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

Are we getting near a record here?

13 three-pointers is getting up there isn’t it?

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 10:14 PM EST reply actions

8 in the 3rd quarter was a record, apparently.

I heard that the Raptors opponent record for 3’s is 17 (groans).

Belinelli

That 3 would’ve made Iverson blush. Way to look for your shot, kid…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 6, 2009 10:14 PM EST reply actions

Bargs with back-to-back double-doubles

I never thought I’d write that… he’s one rebound away…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 6, 2009 10:15 PM EST reply actions

When he got 9 I was thinking that you were going to say that…

Too bad they took him out.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 10:16 PM EST up reply actions

I am not saying it will be a straight line

but I have a feeling this is the beginning of something important

ps, on Beli, do not make fun of him, he has it in him, bring him up to speed and you have a full rotation of solid contributors…

by renato on Nov 6, 2009 10:20 PM EST reply actions

Oh I like Marco – just funny to see him looking to score and score some more.

PS – Love that Weems is in.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 10:22 PM EST up reply actions

I think Bosh and Calderon were just making fun of Belinelli on the bench, actually… all good natured I’m sure…

this is the same team that won against Dallas yesterday, which means their performance has also to do with the Raps

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 10:25 PM EST reply actions

that was a nice win

kept the lid on the defense for the 2nd consecutive game and shooting looked much better …. these guys are starting to look pretty good

by aagoodfella on Nov 6, 2009 10:26 PM EST reply actions

Yep, you see the promise this team holds in games like this.

What I really liked was that the D held the fort until the O got going in the third.

Aight folks, been great as usual, time for me to sign off.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 6, 2009 10:28 PM EST up reply actions

Bosh didn't miss

9/9 from the field for 27 points — that’s crazy!

I'm eating my salami and cheese sandwich right now!

I feel bad for Paul. Him and his team really needs a supporting cast.

Nonetheless, great win by the Raptors! Bosh looked tremen… scratch that, the whole team looked tremendous, especially in the 2nd half.
