Toronto Raptors vs. Boston Celtics

November 27, 2009
TV: TSN at 7:30 pm

Time to re-group! The Raps are in Boston tonight to face the mighty Celtics. Will the Raps come out with an attitude after looking silly against the Bobcats or will they wilt and shy away from the guys in green? If the Raps want to get back on track they need at least a commendable performance tonight.

The HQ will be here to discuss the ups and downs.

Raps vs Celts...

Hard to be too excited about tonight’s match after Wednesday’s fiasco…even if it is Friday night ball. Stop on by for a chat though and we’ll see if we can coax a surprising win out of this group!

Oh, Cr**p, I will get to hear the celtic’s commentators…. this is already goging to be a killer for me….

Maybe hit the mute button…yikes

this is the year where an internet feed had a better quality than standard sd television… it had to happen..

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 7:46 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

We were wondering about that here too at some point. Still not there unless you’re paying.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 27, 2009 7:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

true, but than there is the whole “on demand thing” that makes it a step ahead on that too. I am looking at a tv sd broadcast at the moment and the league pass feed is much better

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 7:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This is a joke already...

Yes, it’s tied, but there’s absolute ZERO interior D going on…unreal.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 27, 2009 7:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

it's not unreal..

this is the Raps team

by elpikiman on Nov 27, 2009 7:52 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That’s true…however it seems like the defense is getting WORSE as the season goes on…

I thought this team would be bad defensively, but a YMCA crew could do a better job protecting the paint?

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 27, 2009 7:54 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Interior? no C has been stop one on one but Perkins once at the beginning

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 7:53 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

And it would be worse had there not been a travel call and a 3 in the key…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 27, 2009 7:54 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

sorry, I meant sayng No one I have no idea why it came off as a No C

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 7:55 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

haha, I heard the celts saying they feel uncomfortable the raps are geting every basket they want

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 7:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Let’s just hope the offense keeps rolling…otherwise it could get ugly fast.

interior d?? what the hell do you need that for??

by vicPapa on Nov 27, 2009 7:58 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

by vicPapa on Nov 27, 2009 8:08 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I mean, I’ve watched a TON of ball through my lifetime and I’ve rarely ever seen something like this. Even when D1 schools like UNC beat up on Canadian Universities!

Las year, with no Joe (hurt) and no Marion, Raptor’s defense was better…. I wonder why

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 8:09 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That’s an article coming up when the Raps have a break in the action; statistically have the Raptors actually been worse with Hedo, Jose and DeRozan than they were with Marion, Parker, etc.

bargs

I like him. but man does he SUCK at rebounding. I don’t want to beat a dead horse with a machete like I’m in a scorcese film here, but hot damn go get the ball son!

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 8:15 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

There’s been a bunch of opportunities tonight…just no presence in the paint at the defensive end.

that they gave the ball back to amir there in the paint after his work on the boards…and it payed off with a basket

by vicPapa on Nov 27, 2009 8:19 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Bargnani

If there’s ever any hope of building a winning team around Bargnani, you need to put a rebounding, shot blocking centre/power forward next to him, as well as a rebounding small forward *cough*Shawn Marion*cough*.

Even then, I don’t think you can build a championship-caliber ball club with someone so horribly flawed at the centre position.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 27, 2009 8:19 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It’s so frustrating. He’s got all the intangibles too, it’s not like he’s a lumbering guy like Rasho…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 27, 2009 8:20 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The “he’s a 3-point shooter” argument holds absolutely no water. He’s not shooting 3’s on the defensive end (unless he’s Nate Robinson).

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 27, 2009 8:28 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

This is going to be interesting…Raps deserve to be down 20 but Boston really hasn’t played well either on D.

Game ovah.

Hedo

Is doing a great job on offense tonight.

My caveat of course is that his D on Pierce in the first quarter cost almost as many points the other way.

Defense is overrated right?

Raps up by 1 on some blistering shooting, especially by Hedo.

Sad thing is, if they had given ANY sort of resistance in the first quarter, this could be much bigger than a one point lead.

I’ve got the feeling the C’s are going to come out fired up to start the 3rd – they look like the Raps did against the Bobcats; just flat.

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 27, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

in all this doom and gloom, maybe the score is the silver lining?

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That’s a good point – as “dialed in” as I expect Boston to be in the second half, MAYBE Jay can fire TO up on D as well in order to build on this unexpected lead??

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 27, 2009 8:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

It would be Huge for this team, confidence is everything and they do not seem to be playing with the same confidence they showed till the game against the suns

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 8:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Glass is 200% half-empty?

Boy if this isn’t the doom and gloom bunch, I don’t know what is. Up by one against a top-5 team on the road, and we’re ready to fire everyone (except Amir, of course).

I was very happy to see Jay go back to the “switch everything” defense. Even if it leads to the occasional mismatch (was it Perkins posting up Jose there at the end?), I’d rather have that than the parade of layups.

By the way, Charlotte is whooping up on the Cavs tonight. Food for thought.

by Aaron Craig on Nov 27, 2009 8:46 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Glass half full view: they are up by one with Drea and Jose being awful, what if they were playing as good as we know they can?

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 8:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Just saw the box score at half. I think the Cavs are overrated but definitely the Bobcats are underrated from what I saw Wednesday night.

And I liked the Jay switch everything and zone D looks too – gotta try some different combos.

Bosh is the only person on the team who could be traded

Nearly everybody else has a moratorium on them being traded at least until mid-December. Calderon and Banks can’t be traded because they make too much, and and POB could only be traded for Devean George (snicker), Matt Barnes, or Sasha Pavlovic. No trades coming until we are out of the race for 5th place.

I wonder if Triano even has the authority or the balls to bench Bargs?

That’s the million dollar question isn’t it…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 27, 2009 9:49 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yep

And without looking at the box score, I think Hedo leads the team…

by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 27, 2009 9:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

But Hedo scored 20 points… that means he had a great game… duh…

Sad thing is I actually thought he and Jack played fairly well tonight overall – but the problem with that statement is that it’s in relation to the way they played earlier this season…

You are correct sir

Jarrett Jack

waits until there is 32 seconds left to show some balls…

Actually, he’s bullied his way to the hoop a few times tonight too. Liked the way he played tonight mostly…

My wife keeps turning away from the TV in horror whenever they show a closeup of Hedo.

the scary thing is

This is what we are talking about instead of basketball…. sign things are getting ugly?

by renato on Nov 27, 2009 9:59 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely

Oh well, we’ll take Pheonix.

Glad somebody else agrees with me!

And, our cheerleaders are nowhere near as sexy as anybody else’s – the Celts in particular!!!

Well...

Time to recap this mess.

Good chatting with everyone in spite of another frustrating loss.

Bottom line for me tonight – no pride or passion once again.

Oh great – Sportscenter is already replaying Bosh getting dunked on…good night all, we’ll be back to chat on Sunday…
