Miami Heat vs. Toronto Raptors
November 20, 2009
TV: TSN2 at 7:00 pm
Back at the ACC the Dinos match-up against the Miami Wades. Can the Raps get back on the winning streak? Will someone decide to play defense? Can Andrea Bargnani cause fits for Jermaine O'Neal? What will the crowds reaction be if the Raps give less than a 100% effort?
We will be chatting about these amongst many other issues. Join in and voice your opinion.
Go RAPS!

Let's Do This!
Excited about tonight’s match – should be a good test for TO.
-Raps at Home
-Hopefully a healthier group
-And hopefully angry about all the “non-defense” talk.
Wade will be a tough cover for DeRozan, but hopefully Bosh is equally difficult for the Miami “bigs.”

Why does it feel like I’m praying a lot about this team… This team is starting to feel like I’m basing a lot of stuff on hope… I hope that DeMar will learn the job, I HOPE that Hedo will attack more. I HOPE the Raptors will slash more. I HOPE Reggie isn’t out for the season

I don’t know about that on the defensive end…
But right now, I’m just happy to see a decent start and not a 20 point deficit.
by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 20, 2009 7:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
We've seen him play
good defense on big guys, good defense on small guys (Nash), defensive rebounds and blocked shots.
Just not all game long, and sometimes not at all. He can do it – he’s just got to unlock the way to do it consistently. And maybe that’s going to turn out to be a skill he just doesn’t have.

I must say, it’s open to interpretation. It either speaks well of Triano’s ability as a tactician or an indictment of his coaching.
by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 20, 2009 7:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
No, that’s a solid point. But so far I’m hoping Pops’ block there indicates why he was in ahead of Marco.
by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 20, 2009 7:36 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Not really. Just saying you could question not going to Bellinelli as the 6th man given his recent play. But on the other hand it makes a lot of sense from a strategic point of view.
by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 20, 2009 7:38 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Not at all. I DESPISE the idea of “players need to come off the bench in a particular order.”
I think it should always be at the coach’s discretion as to when they need certain players and the skills they bring.
by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 20, 2009 7:38 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’ll drink to that!
by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 20, 2009 7:39 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That being said...
…I also believe in allowing players to get in a rhythm, so know when to expect to get in the game. So I’m not advocating jerking the rotation around every game; but at times, the coach needs to shake things up to get the right match-up etc.
by RaptorsHQ - Franchise on Nov 20, 2009 7:42 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
if he make it to be the 12th they figure it out he’ll be worth it 2 6th men…

The most important thing about tonight's game...

by renato on Nov 20, 2009 8:16 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
They had an easy sched: Griz, Wiz, Bulls.
But they beat the Nuggets, were competitive against Clev till 4th Q and lost to Spurs by 2.

I think the Heat are one of the most overrated teams in the league.
Now granted they’re missing Quentin Richardson tonight (don’t laugh, he’s been playing really well and is all their offense outside of Wade and Beasley) and Haslem, who always plays Bosh tough, but I still think the Raps would beat them.
Oh my lord, Raps shooting almost SEVENTY PERCENT??? That’s UNHEARD OF!

Bargnani on Italian TV_ I have spent my teenagers yers shooting,, before going to school and till the evening. My Coach was getting upset if I was shooting from down low, they wanted me to just shoot. So when they say that is a talent he is born with, they have no clue what they are takling about…

Nobody can be a born shooter. I mean, you can have the raw talent — but to be able to shoot at the level of a Bargnani, that’s like 10,000 hours / Malcolm Gladwell “outliers” type stuff.

If he busts out the Cookie Monster voice post game, I’ll be impressed.

Sad thing is
Wade can make up 7 points here…

Must be Tough to be JO in some ways
He’s still there mentally, but physically he just can’t do what he used to. He’s looking at Bosh thinking “that was me only a few years ago!”

GREAT BLOW-BY
Wow…the more I focus on Jose, the more I worry.
In any event, Raps get the win, but a shaky one for sure.

Is there such a thing....
as a disappointing win?

This would be it. I feel dirty after watching that.

A win's a win but...
If this had been about 15 other teams they were playing tonight, maybe more, this would have been an L in my books.

OK, so the positives:
- the first half
- Belinelli off the bench
- 4 and 1 at home, so they’re defending home court
- great “box score” numbers by the key players
- Jarrett Jack breaks out
The negatives:
- Jay Triano’s inexplicable 2nd half rotation
- the Calderon/Jack backcourt
- Calderon’s perimeter D (which doesn’t exist… AT ALL)

I've got nothing to add here...
Another big one Sunday folks, I’m signing off to do the rapid recap…

hey, DS, lets hear some love for Bargs! 24 pts, 10 rebs – ill take that average!

He definitely had a pretty good line tonight. I’ll take 10 boards from the big fella. And the two blocks were good as well.
Backcourt and the rotation was a HUGE issue tonight.

we're still
getting bits and pieces from players (like jack tonight) but we haven’t seen it all come together on a consistent basis. hopefully that’s going to come.
and yeah, jose’s d is just simply…wow. with him and bargs on the floor it’s going to be a battle most nights to get stops. no doubt.

also interesting to see rasho regular DNP. Ha she regressed that much? Really?
by Gerry71 on Nov 20, 2009 9:58 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Yes he has
But we will need him and his 6 fouls on sunday. Hopefully, after that O’Bryant goes inactive where he belongs, and either Wright or (Carlton) Banks come back.
