TV: CBC

Time for the Raptors to rebound after Friday night's loss to the Grizz. Obviously all eyes will be on Hedo Turkoglu who will be facing his old teammates.

The HQ crew will be discussing things live during this afternoon's Game-Day Thread, and of course, the recap will follow tomorrow.

Nas' Hate Me Now

An appropriate song when I think about Andrea Bargnani’s interior defense and rebounding…

Let’s get the chat underway!

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:09 PM EST reply actions

Franchise — a big Duke fan — is at the ACC today, and he must be touching himself after JJ Redick got introduced with the starters.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:11 PM EST reply actions

Hey Hey… Loving the new intro actually. Damn.. I have to flip btw the game and the Giants vs Eagles. I guess I can flick on the PIP.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:11 PM EST reply actions

Beautiful afternoon for the PIP feature (or multiple flat screens on your wall). Haha.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

I hope the Raps have a better start than my Giants. Already down 14 zip.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:15 PM EST up reply actions

I’m feeling good about my Philly pick then :P

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:16 PM EST up reply actions

I’m also loving Bosh’s new found ability to rebound. And the Turk has got take smoke JJ this aft.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:16 PM EST reply actions

Whats with bosh and 2 threes already in the season?

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:18 PM EST up reply actions

I was reading something the other day about the Mavs stats guy believing that having a PF who could shoot correlates with winning, so I’d love to see CB4 add the 3 ball to his arsenal.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

really? Magic, Clev, Bos, Spurs…

I mean how many PFs can shoot 3w?

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:23 PM EST up reply actions

Bosh

… with the missed free throws. Fatigue 2 mins in after carrying the team on Friday? but he comes back with the 3 ball.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:17 PM EST reply actions

Bad Tattoos

If there’s an “All Bad Tattoo” team in the NBA, Matt Barnes is the starting SF.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:19 PM EST reply actions

Where the F* is the crowd?? Sounds pretty dead at the ACC there… Sure miss the VC Suck chants.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:19 PM EST reply actions

Perimeter D?

Glad to see that’s no happening through the midway point of the 1st quarter…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:21 PM EST reply actions

DeMar DeRozan

You think the T-Wolves would like a do-over on that Rubio pick? A Flynn-DeRozan backcourt would look pretty good right baout now.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:22 PM EST reply actions

Matt Barnes foul

That call was ridiculous. But I don’t know why the Raptors’ coaching staff didn’t step up to prevent that technical foul. Stupid to give up free points in a game. I hate the T’s.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:26 PM EST reply actions

we should see a series of make up calls..

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

the turk play on howard should have been one.. uh oh.. maybe not.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

Like that Turk “and 1” that the ref just swallowed his whistle on?

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

who started for the Magic?

Well, JJ Redick (who just hit that WIDE OPEN 3 and layup)… Howard, Anderson, Barnes and Nelson.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

you know it ain’t a good day if we’re getting killed by JJ and Anderson.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:33 PM EST up reply actions

Of course I mean ORL and not the Raptors’ pretend depth.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:34 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know.. our starters should be able to handle those two from the outside.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

and we should be torching them on offence.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

uhoh.. want to see jack in now.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:29 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn’t mind some mins from Antoine Wright as well. How in the name of god do you let JJ score 5 straight points? Ridiculous.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

JJ started?

since when was JJ NBA starter material?

Magic had that lead to 10 pts before the Raps have crawled back 31-26.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:36 PM EST reply actions

please please please stop sagging off to the foul line extended!! Make Howard beat us. 7/10 from 3s is ridiculous.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

And we’re back to a 10-pt ORL lead…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:37 PM EST reply actions

That is horrible...

is Evans still out? Weems?

Evans is still in street clothes, and Weems hasn’t seen the floor yet.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:40 PM EST up reply actions

Raps shot 58% and trail… Magic shot 64% and are winning the battle of the boards 11-7…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:41 PM EST up reply actions

Redick is pretending he’s back at Duke…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:42 PM EST reply actions

He doesn’t even need screens, man — he just got to the basket off the dribble for 2… Raps are playing Charity Game defense right now.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:47 PM EST up reply actions

J-Will just got into the paint like he was still in Sactown (and not a guy who didn’t even play in the NBA last season)… This game is getting out of hand with less than 3 mins gone in the 2nd quarter…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:44 PM EST reply actions

ok.. need to go take a walk and calm down.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:46 PM EST reply actions

my neighbours are probably wondering who I’m yelling at.

by Ustation on Nov 1, 2009 1:46 PM EST up reply actions

I’m trying to internalize the anger and frustration for the sake of my two napping children… haha…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:48 PM EST up reply actions

CBC cameras just caught Bosh turning towards the tunnel and yelling “trade me” to general manager Bryan Colangelo… kidding… maybe :(

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:49 PM EST reply actions

You just knew...

… that last JJ Redick 3 was going in. Dude is 4 of 5 from long range (6 of 8 overall).

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 1:54 PM EST reply actions

Bosh has been terrible from the line so far…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 2:08 PM EST reply actions

Antoine Wright for 3...

… and the Raptors have cut the lead in half! ORL by 11.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 2:10 PM EST reply actions

9-point game...

Can the Raptors continue to cut into the lead? Not if they foul JJ Redick for no reason.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 2:14 PM EST reply actions

64-53 at halftime

Just an ugly, ugly game at this point… Time to check some football scores…

Not much. I thought the Memphis game was bad enough, but this has taken it to a new level. Watching JJ Redick destroy the Raps has been disheartening to say the least.

Check the box score

6/10 from the field, 4/6 from 3… 3 reb, 3 ast…

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 2:28 PM EST up reply actions

The only thing worse than defense has been offense, they have been cutting into Orlando’s lead mostly by people playing one on 5. Let’s hope they can get a fresh start in the second half, also because they cannot play worse than this… hopefully

by renato on Nov 1, 2009 2:27 PM EST reply actions

They’re shooting 57% from the field, which is shocking — it feels like they’re doing a lot worse offensively. And defensively, they’re holding the Magic to 44% shooting at the half (after 64% in the first quarter).

The real story here is the 3-point shooting (10 of 18 for Orlando). That’s just unacceptable.

Let’s hope the low point of the season is games 2 and 3 because I can’t take an entire season of this uninspired play.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 2:33 PM EST up reply actions

papa

how’s redick getting his points? or should I say, who’s letting him get his points? the guys got 18 at the half. previous GAME high for the kid? 18. what’s up?

by vicPapa on Nov 1, 2009 2:29 PM EST reply actions

Redick drilled four triples in the first half (most of which were WIDE open looks). But the thing that’s killing me is he even scored off the dribble while taking it to the bucket. Just blatant evidence of how soft this team is in the paint.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 2:34 PM EST up reply actions

Dwight Howard

I barely caught that — did they just mention a possible shoulder injury for Howard? Something to look at in the 2nd half, if the Raps can continue to make a run.

by RaptorsHQ - Defensive Stance on Nov 1, 2009 2:37 PM EST reply actions

I saw Howard

IIRC the last time the Raptors beat Orlando, I’m pretty sure Howard was about 45% on free throws. Lots of praise for the Raptors that time, but they would have lost that game if he’d made free throws like he did tonight. OTOH, they would have had a real chance to win if he’d shot 45% from the line tonight, despite everything else that went wrong.

If he can keep this up, he’ll turn into an MVP candidate.

I've been looking at the sky

NOOooo

defense was bad, but i think the magic were just lucky being able to hit all those threes. what killed us the most was that we couldnt hit any of our free-throws and the offiicials were heavily favouring the magic. there were many plays that were boneheaded calls and noncalls by the refs. also what the f* is up with calderon. our most important player who controls the offense is playing really terrible right now. he’s missing his shots (3’s and free-throws) and thats what he does best. calderon needs to step up big time or this team will continue losing.

!!!

Everyone keeps mentioning that the Magic were missing Carter and Pietrus . . . what about Rashard Lewis! He’s a 20ppg+ scorer who is out the first ten games because of steroids. This team will smoke the Raps 100 times out of a 100 with a full lineup.

Raps remain a lottery team . . . at least we get to keep the pick this year.

3 guards !!!

I dont know about you guys and gals but I’m getting tired of the 3 guard use…how is it working for you !!!
Dont get me wrong Bosh played his ass off ,even manned up against his buddy Howard…but in the dying minutes of ALL fuc….. games Bosh becomes this big black hole, the rest of the team might as well go back on defence, because we know that no one has any intentions of crashing the boards …did I just say defence!!!!!
As ball fans we know that JJ and Anderson can shoot threes, what was the game plan for today? to watch their guards fly by JC again !!!
I like Jose,I’m still questioning the Turk signing, but the "GAME SHAPE B.S. "I for one am getting tired of game shape excuses and 9 new players…
I thought the team was going to substitute according to match ups ? Nelson has owned JC !!
I also like the rook…but I think its time to start AR.
I better stop now
