Get Out Your PJ's
Apparently in the eyes of Colangelo and Mitchell (amongst others) PJ Tucker has shown enough in Summer League play to get the opportunity to sign his first NBA contract. Terms have not been disclosed but it appears that Pyjama Tucker will be in the lay-up lines during the warm-ups of most games. It also means that another roster spot is not taken up, leaving very little room as we head into the duller part of the off-season.
This weekend, Chapman and Franchise will be taking an extensive look back at the Raptors' summer league performance and reviewing certain Raptors including the newly signed PJ Tucker.

I have a feeling Tucker will become a very serviceable NBA player ... this could be the steal 2nd rounder. Wouldn't he qualify as a guard who can rebound? He led Texas in rebounds for two years, more than Aldridge (points too).

I'm thinking Ruben Patterson (minus the baby sitter shennanigans): a 5 in the body of a three, with a team's worth of not-untalented hustle. Ruben is the kind of guy who plays like he's trying to get a block, a steal, a rebound, an assist and an and-one basket-- all in one play. It's going to take that level of overachievement for Tucker to make a contribution to the Raptors.

I find it very curious that while Lamarcus Aldridge was the hyped prospect, Tucker actually put up better numbers. This is not to guarantee that Tucker will be a successful pro, but it does make me think that Aldridge has been overhyped.
The key for Tucker is whether he can guard people at the 2-3 positions. If he can do that, his rebounding and hustle will be a bonus.
