Raptors Fire Babcock
Not much to report on this yet as the story just broke but is being reported in the Globe and Mail and on TSN.ca. Out of the blue? Why? Who is behind this? Is this the ultimate sign of incompetence on behalf of the Raptors Franchise? Bosh's reaction? Shouldn't Ferguson be first considering how crap the Leafs are?
These and many more questions will start to be asked and RaptorsHQ will be breaking many of them down in a full length piece tomorrow morning. Also, for all you early risers, RaptorsHQ will be on CBC radio's Metro Morning tomorrow morning around 7:40 AM to discuss the firing and to talk about some of your comments on these latest developments with the club...fire away!

Wow, these guys have no idea what they're doing. RaptorsHQ should watch out, they might fire you at any moment . . .

This is ok! The person who should be fired is Peddie. He made the mistake of hiring Babcock. Indiana showed what you do with a disgruntled player, you wait and wait and wait...

The Raptors appear so directionless... can we please get some stability in the front office. Is that asking too much... Glen Grunwald, Rob Babcock, Lenny, Wilkins, Kevin O'Neill, probably Sam Mitchell pretty soon... It's like a revolving door. We need to hire someone from San Antonio, they know how to run a franchise.

Good call, Peddie has got to go . . . maybe next time the CEO should know something about basketball, instead of being a corporate yes-man.

Wow did not see this coming in a long time. Dont get me wrong but Babcock did make some mistakes while he was here but this season he didnt even do something worth firing for. Mike james the rookies and pap sow are all beacause of him. BUT the negitives are more than the positives and well its the nba so move on letts hope the raptors pick up someone

Once again the tail wags the dog! Richard Peddie (Mike MilburyII) should be fired. He should have released John Ferguson Jr. and then committed suicide before firing Babcock.
How do you think Sam Mitchell feels? He knows he's gone when the new GM is hired.
How many ex-coaches and ex-GM's are we now paying? Grunwald? Wilkens? O"Neill? Babcock? Name the one constant in this equation!
MLSE will do 3 things - 1) Make money 2) Ensure the Leafs never win the Cup and 3) Drive the Raptors out of Toronto.

What I don't understand is MLSE runs evaluations at the end of every year, and Babcock apparently passed that evaluation after a horrid start to his GM career.
This season he puts together a great string of moves: arguably the best draft, the Calderon signing, Rafer trade, and Sow is even starting to look like a solid player. It starts looking like Babcock might be a pretty decent GM now, and they fire him?
Looks to me Peddie, who is known to be a financial wizard, saw a drop in attendence and thought that he needed to find a scapegoat to save face with the fans, because it sure wasn't Babcocks performance as GM that got him fired this year.

WHAT?! Peddie admits to not hiring the right guy ... after all of this, shouldn't HE be the one going? I don't necessarily disagree that Babcock's tenure was rocky, but at least there appeared to be a semblance of a plan. Now, where do we go from here?
Peddie messed this up to begin with, he should go.
If they bring in Dr. J (which they most likely won't but how many "experienced" options are there?) I just about throw up.
Will this help to sign Bosh?

This was personal. Peddie went to the board of directors before the new year's to get Babcock fired.. then the raps started to win. It was feta complete.
Prospects:
Piston - "Daddy Rich" Chuck Daly? ok maybe a little old
Former Cav - Jim Paxon (God No!)
Former 6ers SrVP - Browne Sanders
Former Hornet - Allan Bristow
Former Hawk/Nuggets - Pete Babcock (not another)
Former Warrior - Gary St. Jean
Former Magic - John Weisbrod (Ohh really god no!), John Gabriel(maybe)
Former Bull - Jerry Krause
Former Pacer - Donnie Walsh
How much would it cost to bring Jerry West or Bryan Collangelo?
Anyone else?

The right move, but the wrong time. I certainly did no see this coming, as just yesterday I wrote on http://www.sportsguynorth.blogspot.com that firing Babs was not in the organizations plans. Man was I wrong! The Raptors crew dropped the ball yet again!
I would like to see RP shown the door himself.

This is unbelievable. I feel bad for Rob Babcock. He was hired based on his 3 year rebuilding plan and Peddie fires him before the end of year 2...with him running the show, how is this team ever going to attract an "experienced GM" that the keep talking about?
